Description du poste

UAB Heersink School of Medicine
Cancer Strategic Recruitment Initiative

THE OPPORTUNITY

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Heersink School of Medicine (HSOM) and the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center are leading a recruitment to significantly expand the number and variety of investigators across basic, population science, and translational research in cancer. We seek candidates at all academic ranks, including Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor, who hold an MD, PhD, or MD/PhD. Successful candidates will receive an academic appointment in one or more of the Heersink School of Medicine's 27 academic departments, several of which rank among the nation's top 10.

Successful applicants will join the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the first eight Cancer Centers designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in 1972, which has been continuously funded by the NCI since its inception 54 years ago. It is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in a four-state region. The O'Neal has many areas of research excellence and has placed an emphasis on developing and supporting team science focused on the most important questions in cancer biology and population science, with a premium placed on translating important discoveries to the more than 5,000 new cancer patients seen at the O'Neal each year.

The O'Neal has over 400 members conducting outstanding cancer research across four interdisciplinary scientific programs and is supported by a broad array of institutional shared resources that allow access to the most cutting-edge technologies. The O'Neal raises over $5M per year from the community that is entirely invested in pilot grants and research initiatives.

UAB is making a major investment in the future of biomedical discovery with a new, flagship research facility purpose-built to recruit and empower up to 80 principal investigators. This state-of-the-art building delivers highly flexible wet and dry laboratory space, integrated vivarium infrastructure, and intentionally designed adjacencies that catalyze interdisciplinary collaborations across cancer biology, immunology, and the neurosciences. Positioned at the center of campus and engineered for scale, the facility offers investigators an exceptional environment to build ambitious, well-funded research programs with global impact.

APPLICATIONS

UAB is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and family-friendly environment in which all faculty and staff can excel and achieve work/life balance irrespective of race, national origin, age, genetic or family medical history, gender, faith, gender identity and expression, as well as sexual orientation. UAB also encourages applications from individuals with disabilities and veterans.

A pre-employment background investigation is performed on candidates selected for employment. In addition, physicians and other clinical faculty candidates who will be employed by the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation (UAHSF) or other UAB Medicine entities must successfully complete a pre-employment drug and nicotine screen to be hired.
