Northwest Nazarene University is seeking a Campus Safety Officer (Part-time) within the Office of Campus Safety to protect property and rights and to provide a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.

The position reports to the Director of Campus Safety and requires a high school diploma, one year of professional experience, strong communication skills, conflict resolution abilities, and computer skills including Microsoft Office; CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain

Campus Safety Officer (Part-time)

Description of Position

The Office of Campus Safety is seeking applicants for a part-time, non-exempt position, as a Campus Safety Officer. This position will protect the property and rights of all members of the University. The Campus Safety Officer will provide a safe and secure environment to study, work, and live.

The Campus Safety Officer for Northwest Nazarene University is part of the Department for Student Life and reports to the Director of Campus Safety.

Essential Functions

• Enforces campus rules and regulations.
• Assists in campus and community safety, crime prevention, and loss prevention education.
• Patrols Campus buildings and parking lots on foot or vehicle.
• Investigates on-campus complaints and/or suspicious circumstances.
• Maintains security access to various campus buildings.
• Monitors staff, faculty, and student key card access.
• Parking enforcement and issuance of parking citations.
• Participates in Emergency Response and Emergency Management processes for campus preparedness.
• Responds to calls for service and dispatched alarm calls.
• Writes incident and safety reports.
• Mandatory overtime upon request.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) year professional work experience.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to resolve conflict and de-escalate situations.
• Must possess computer skills in Microsoft Office products and the ability to learn new computer software.
• Variable shifts (including weekends, holidays) and on-call scheduling will be expected in this position.
• CPR and Basic First Aid certified or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
• Ability to work while standing and/ or walking for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs without assistance.
• Must maintain a valid Idaho driver’s license.
• Must maintain a level of fitness necessary to effectively respond to life threatening situations on the job.
• All candidates must have a Christian perspective (preferably in the Wesleyan tradition), be in agreement with the doctrine of the Nazarene church, agree to live within the mission and lifestyle values of NNU, and be willing to help advance the spiritual goals of the University

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's degree (AA) in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or related field.
• Experience working with the general public or in a college or university setting.

Compensation

Salary will be determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant. As this position is part-time, NNU benefits do not apply.
