Job summary

Oak Park and River Forest High School is seeking a Campus Safety & Support Officer to supervise students and campus areas, ensuring a safe environment. The role requires working 10 months, Mon–Fri, 10:00am–6:30pm, at $22.50 per hour under the collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities include incident reporting, locker/area supervision, and coordination with security staff. Some college or law enforcement training preferred; 21+ years old, with ICS training as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Experience with adolescents is required.
  • Mandatory ICS training (Series 300/400/800) is required if designated to participate.
  • High School Diploma required; some college or law enforcement training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise interior and exterior of school and grounds with security personnel.
  • Promote consistency among security staff in referrals and conduct.
  • Secure and log lost and found items, and return them when claimed.
  • Respond to requests for assistance while on duty.
  • Investigate student misconduct and complaints against non-students.
  • Refer concerns to the Director of Campus Safety and maintain documentation.
  • Prepare written incident reports and utilize the Degree Point System while patrolling.
  • Escort students to the community library to ensure safety; experienced with Easy Lobby System.
  • Deliver discipline letters using the district security vehicle; may require extended hours.

Rate of Pay: $22.50 per hour per Collective Bargaining Agreement

Oak Park and River Forest High School, or OPRF, is a comprehensive public high school located in Oak Park, IL, a suburb eight miles due west of downtown Chicago. We are a one-school district, with the majority of our students coming from two sender districts, River Forest Public Schools District 90 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. We offer more than 200 courses, a variety of programs for students with special needs, 103 clubs and activities, and 34 competitive sports. We prepare our students well for post-secondary success, with an average ACT composite score of 24 and a 96% graduation rate.

Position Summary:

Daily supervision of students, school building, grounds and perimeter of school in concert with other security personnel, under the direction of supervisor(s), to ensure safety of pupils, personnel, visitors, and property, as well as maintenance of OPRFHS Code of Conduct and other applicable rules.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise interior and exterior of school, grounds, and in concert with other security personnel as assigned.
  • Promote and maintain consistency among all security personnel in approaching individuals and in referring students to the Student Intervention Director for school rule infractions.
  • Responsible for securing valuable lost and found items including securing and logging items and returning items when individuals appear to reclaim.
  • Respond to requests for assistance whenever on duty.
  • Investigate all student misconduct and complaints made against non-students.
  • Refer all concerns and findings to Director of Campus Safety.
  • Responsible for assigning and accessing lockers; all related documentation.
  • Prepares written incident reports or other reports as necessary.
  • Using the Degree Point System when patrolling the campus.
  • Experienced in working with Easy Lobby System.
  • Escort students to the community library to assure safety and security of students and the community. Experienced in Easy Lobby System.
  • May be required to work extended hours as needs arise.
  • Responsible for delivering discipline letters within the community using the District’s security vehicle. Requires knowledge of the Oak Park and River Forest area for delivering Discipline Letters.
  • Provide coverage of the in‑school suspension room when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Certifications/Education:
  • High School Diploma.
  • Some college preferred.
  • Law enforcement classes or training preferred.
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Experience with adolescents required; human services work experience desirable.
  • Must successfully attend and complete mandatory training including ICS (series 300, 400 and 800) if designated to participate.
  • Must attend designated training and professional development and expected to work during the senior graduation ceremony.
