Job summary

Grinnell College is seeking a Campus Safety Officer to support a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Under the direction of the Associate Director of Campus Safety, this role patrols campus properties, responds to calls for service, and takes appropriate action to address safety concerns.

Job description

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Campus Safety, theCampus Safety Officer supports the College's safety and securityoperations by helping maintain a safe and secure environment forstudents, faculty, staff, and visitors. The officer accomplishesthis by patrolling and monitoring College property, responding tocalls for service, and taking appropriate action to address safetyand security concerns.

Essential Responsibilities

• Patrol campus on foot and by vehicle to maintain a safe andsecure environment, monitor facilities and grounds, control access,and respond to emergencies, incidents, and calls for service.
• Monitor security, life safety, surveillance, alarm, and accesscontrol systems; dispatch appropriate emergency and public safetyresources; and coordinate communications with campus departmentsand external public safety agencies.
• Provide professional customer service by assisting students,employees, visitors, and vendors, answering questions, resolvingconcerns, and supporting College operations.
• Enforce College policies and applicable laws by addressingsafety and security concerns, investigating incidents, documentingfindings, and preparing accurate reports.
• Inspect and monitor security equipment and facilities, identifyhazards or maintenance concerns, and report or coordinatecorrective actions to help ensure the safety and security of thecampus.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or anequivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• One year or more of work experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability towrite effective and concise reports.
• Demonstrated ability to be customer service oriented, with theability to interact with all levels of individuals within theorganization and general public in a courteous and professionalmanner.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, successfully handleand prioritize multiple competing assignments, and effectivelymanage deadlines.
• Professional, articulate, and able to use good independentjudgment and discretion.
• The ability to attain and maintain the same level of trainingas required for a Campus Safety Officer.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and make decisions indifficult and crisis type situations

Preferred Qualifications

• First Aid certification, including CPR and defibrillationtraining
