Job summary

Enid Public Schools is seeking a Campus Police Officer to protect life and property across district properties, employing community-based policing to foster safety on campus.

You will develop positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff while enforcing laws and school policies, responding to emergencies, and maintaining order during activities.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• CLEET Certification is preferred, but not required.
• No felony convictions.
• No convictions for crimes of moral turpitude or domestic violence.
• Must not have had a DUI, DWI or reckless driving violation within last 5 years.
• Must pass background check.
• Must pass physical.
• Must pass MMPI.
• Must be a United States Citizen.
• Must be able to complete the Field Training Officer Program.
• Have high principles, ethics and moral character.
• Have excellent communication skills.
• Must be able to work in a school setting.
• Must qualify yearly with duty weapon.

Responsibilities

• Provide for campus safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations.
• Record facts to prepare reports that document incidents and activities.
• Monitor, note, report, and investigate suspicious persons and situations, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity in patrol area.
• Identify, pursue, and arrest suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts. Review facts of incidents to determine if criminal act or statute violations were involved.
• Render aid to accident victims and other persons requiring first aid for physical injuries.
• Investigate traffic accidents and other accidents to determine causes.
• Cooperate with other law enforcement officials.
• Perform other duties as directed by superiors.

JOB OVERVIEW: Campus Police Officers are responsible for the protection of all life and property on all Enid Public School District properties, using community-based policing to ensure the safety and cooperation of the entire campus. This approach involves developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, faculty and staff members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Record facts to prepare reports that document incidents and activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES & POWERS

Campus police officers have the power to perform general police duties, such as deterring and preventing unlawful behavior, issuing citations, serving warrants, apprehending offenders, making arrests, preserving crime scenes, investigating crimes, conducting surveillance, and testifying in court. Campus police officers have the authority to carry and use firearms to perform their duties.

Campus police officers patrol buildings, grounds, and facilities, and look out for criminal and suspicious activity as well as for violations of laws, regulations, policies, and rules. They also watch for unusual conditions as well as for signs of fire and safety hazards. As part of their police duty, these law enforcement officers respond to a wide range of requests for service from students, faculty, and others on campus. The requests may be about criminal or noncriminal matters.

An essential aspect of their job is writing accurate and detailed reports of their activities. For example, Campus police officers are responsible for completing incident reports, and investigative reports. These officers also maintain records and files about incidents, criminal records, and lost and found items.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 11-Month Contract – Non-Certified – Non-Exempt

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work of a police officer is risky by its very nature. While most of the work includes developing positive relationships with students, law enforcement officials may face threatening situations when responding to school safety concerns. Duties occur inside and outside of the school, and also include coverage of some evening extracurricular activities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing. The employee must frequently lift and move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

EVALUATION: In accordance with Board Policy and appropriate procedural regulations. The Superintendent or designee will be responsible for completing the evaluation.

SALARY RANGE: $20.45 0 years of service

BENEFITS: This position includes health insurance for the employee that may be waived for additional salary, if preferred and retirement paid by the school into the teacher's retirement.
