Job summary

Morton College is seeking a Police Officer to safeguard the campus, enforce laws and college rules, and coordinate safety operations. The role requires strong judgment, writing and communication skills, and the ability to prepare complete case reports.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, two years in law enforcement, a valid driver’s license, FOID card, and Illinois officer certification or renewal eligibility. CPR and first-aid certification are also required.

Responsibilities

• Enforce federal, state, local laws and college regulations on campus.
• Enforce campus traffic and parking regulations.
• Oversee operations of Campus Safety.
• Protect staff, students, and guests on college property.
• Identify risks and make proper notifications to address issues.
• Conduct thorough investigations to conclusions.
• Prepare detailed, fact-based reports after interviews.
• Provide emergency medical assistance and be First Aid certified.
• Demonstrate de-escalation, communication, and mental health awareness.

Job description

Police Officers ensure the campus community’s safety and property protection by performing assigned duties, such as visible campus patrol and enforcing applicable laws. Ensuring that the college’s rules and regulations are obeyed. An Officer must be able to complete a thorough preliminary investigation, make sound decisions, and take appropriate action. Officers must be able to demonstrate the Morton College core values of compassion, fairness, respect, responsibility, tolerance, and truth. Police Officer must work hours mandated monthly per theCBAand be flexible to cover shifts to meet department needs.

• Enforce applicable federal, state, and local laws; and college rules and regulations.
• Enforce traffic and parking regulations on campus.
• Assume responsibility for the operations of Campus Safety.
• Protect the persons and property of all staff, students, and guests within the confines of the college or college-controlled properties.
• Ensure the safety of the campus, identify risks, and make proper notifications to address the issue.
• Conduct a proper investigation to an end result.
• Complete thorough reports based on facts through a proper interview and submit them for review.
• Provide emergency medical assistance and be First Aid certified.
• Demonstrate and promote good communication, de-escalation techniques, and mental health awareness.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma,GEDor equivalent. Two years of law enforcement experience. Must have a valid state driver’s license,FOIDCard (Illinois residents), and valid Illinois police officer state certification and/or ability to update/renew if retired law enforcement able to obtain a state of IL training waiver issues by the IL Law Enforcement Training and Standard Board. Possess strong writing, communication, and decision-making skills. Strong computer skills including Microsoft. Must haveCPRand first-aid certification. Must pass a criminal background investigation, drug test, and physical.

Preferred Qualifications
An Associate Degree in Law Enforcement or Military. Certified Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), juvenile or school resource officer. Familiar with National Incident Management System or possess any other training certification as an instructor. Ability to communicate in Spanish
