Job summary

The University of North Carolina is seeking a Transportation Driver to join the Transportation Services unit in Charlotte. This part-time role supports Niner Paratransit and related services, with a fixed schedule from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and occasional shifts for events.

You will assist with daily vehicle operations, safety checks, and ADA mobility support, ensuring safe transport for students, faculty, staff, and guests on campus in Charlotte, NC.

Qualifications

• Sufficient experience to operate assigned vehicles or equipment.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day Transportation business needs as assigned by supervision, including Niner Transit, Niner Paratransit, e-scooters and pedal-assist bicycles, bicycle lockers, charter transportation requests, bus advertising, CATS /Light Rail operations, and all other transportation-related services, as well as: Identify and document vehicle defects on associated paperwork ( DVIR , Vehicle Usage Log, etc.)
• Properly secure mobility device aids for disability transportation program members in vehicles with appropriate tie-down restraints.
• Utilize University-provided two-way radios for appropriate and professional communication with supervisor and/or on-duty dispatcher for updates and passenger transfer information.
• Report to designated ADA pick-up and drop-off locations as directed by software-initiated schedule and/or on-duty dispatcher for scheduled and on-demand transfers, and provide safe point-to-point transportation.
• Provide chartered transportation as scheduled by supervisory staff.
• Provide courteous and positive customer-service experiences to students, faculty, staff, and University guests through all interactions and supported services.
• Communicate professionally and respectfully with all customers, internal and external, and provide information, assistance, and/or solutions to customers with questions, concerns, and/or complaints to ensure they are appropriately handled.
• Independently perform routine pre/post-trip vehicle inspections, identifying both the condition and operational capacity of all vehicle systems by checking fuel levels, tires, wiper blades, lights, audible and visual vehicle warning systems, ADA lift/ramp and accessory components, etc.
• Report vehicle defects to the supervisor and document them on the Driver/Vehicle Inspection Report ( DVIR )
• Fuel vehicles daily at the end of each shift.
• Operate vehicle-equipped ADA ramp/lift and ensure passengers enter and exit the vehicle safely.
• Report on time for your scheduled shift, clock into the timekeeping system, and check in with the on-duty supervisor for relevant information.
