Job summary

Northwestern University is seeking an experienced facilities engineer to lead the design, construction, and commissioning of complex building systems across Evanston and Chicago campuses. You will supervise design reviews, coordinate with GCs, architects, and engineers, and ensure quality control on major renewal projects.

The role emphasizes building mechanical/electrical systems, automation, and collaboration with operations teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering and 8+ years in engineering design or construction.
  • Experience as design engineer or contractor on billion-dollar capital projects.
  • Experience planning, budgeting, estimating, scheduling, and overseeing building mechanical/electrical construction.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee review of engineering design documents for compliance with university requirements.
  • Lead Central Utility Plant improvements technical work.
  • Coordinate Owner's Commissioning Agent activities with GC/consultants and FM operations.
  • Provide on-site review/coordination to ensure plans meet specifications.
  • Monitor coordination process among contractors.
  • Observe construction sites and evaluate problems with proposed solutions.
  • Negotiate changes and ensure timely project completion.
  • Review shop drawings and approve payment applications.
  • Serve as Project Manager on complex renewal and replacement projects.
