Job summary

UCLA is seeking a skilled Locksmith/Facilities Mechanic to perform routine lock maintenance, disassemble and repair cylinders, and cut keys with code and pneumatic machines. You will manage key inventory, process work orders, and assist campus customers while upholding safety standards.

The role requires knowledge of locksmith trade tools and materials, ability to troubleshoot hardware, and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years locksmith experience (Preferred)
• Knowledge of locksmith trade materials, tools and equipment
• Power operated doors (hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical)
• Operate code cutters, Medeco duplicating machine, key decoding machine
• Troubleshoot institutional hardware for deterioration or malfunction
• Estimate material and labor requirements
• Maintain confidentiality of personnel and security issues
• Perform arithmetic for layouts and cost calculations
• Monitor inventory levels to ensure materials on hand
• Oral communication to convey information clearly
• Written reports in simple English with correct grammar
• Ability to work independently
• Bend/stoop to remove/replace door locks

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance of locks and related hardware
• Disassemble locks and repair/replace cylinders
• Cut keys using code and pneumatic machines
• Maintain key inventory in database
• Process work orders and update database
• Assist walk-in customers or phone inquiries
• Transport materials to and from job sites
• Follow safety procedures at all times
• Clean up job site and return equipment after completion
