Job summary

George Mason University seeks a Food Rescue Specialist to support the Fairfax campus Food Rescue and Composting initiative. You will perform operational and administrative tasks, plan and implement rescue activities, and engage with campus partners and FRN chapters to reduce food waste and address food insecurity.

Responsibilities include transporting donations, coordinating volunteers, and ensuring food safety. Limited remote work may be possible; evening/weekend shifts required as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to work collaboratively and independently on tasks and projects.
• Experience leading, training, and managing volunteers for activities.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
• Must possess a current, valid driver’s license and ability to operate university vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport food donations to on-campus and external locations.
• Package and label donations in the new Food Rescue Hub.
• Train and operate university vehicle/motorized unit for pickups and deliveries.
• Coordinate food rescue routes and volunteer shifts; adjust as needed.
• Maintain food safety practices and communicate with campus partners.
