Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. seeks a Fitness Center Worker/Building Supervisor for temporary, on-site work in Oakland.

The role involves supervising users of the fitness center, gymnasium, activity rooms, and outdoor spaces, ensuring safety protocols, and addressing inquiries during shifts. Responsibilities include opening/closing facilities, greeter duties, policy enforcement, and regular cleaning.

Qualifications

• 6-12 months of experience in a customer service environment is preferred
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Ability to pass a background check
• Willing to become CPR/AED Certified (current certification preferred but will be provided)

Responsibilities

• Supervise fitness center users and facility spaces including gym, activity rooms, tennis courts, and soccer field
• Open/close facilities and address safety and policy issues promptly
• Greet students, staff, and faculty; assist with inquiries and check-ins
• Ensure patrons follow policies and redirect as needed
• Maintain professional demeanor during shifts and report maintenance or safety concerns
• Answer phones and assist callers with inquiries
• Perform cleaning, laundry, and basic facility upkeep
• Conduct regular facility walkthroughs and report issues
• Respond to emergencies and follow the Emergency Action Plan
• Perform administrative tasks and support various projects as assigned by Campus Recreation staff
