Job summary

San José State University is seeking a Laborer to support the Moving & Recycling Services Unit within the Maintenance & Operations division. Under general supervision, you will move heavy objects, assist in event setup, clean areas, and help with grounds and waste removal. Responsibilities include using tools, recording time, and safe operation of vehicles and equipment.

Standard schedule is Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Qualifications

Safely move heavy items and operate related tools and equipment.
Follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety.
Maintain records and produce standard reports from manual or computerized systems.
Demonstrate a customer-oriented approach and professional conduct.
Recognize changing priorities and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Possess a valid California driver's license and comply with driving regulations.

Responsibilities

Move heavy objects such as furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies
Assist in campus event set-up; load and unload furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials
Clean assigned areas, including debris removal and drainage cleaning
Use computer for communicating, coordinating, documenting work details, and recording time log
Power washing; cleaning roadsides and related areas; assist in other cleaning projects
Remove and haul waste and recyclables from central aggregation sites
Operate radio for urgent information and status updates; use protective equipment as required
Maintain inventory and records, order parts and supplies
