What The Role Entails

The Campus Director will lead the technical teams at our ORD campus, driving operational excellence, lifecycle performance, and continuous improvement to maximize reliability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction across all CloudHQ sites. This leader will represent CloudHQ’s Operations organization with professionalism across internal functions and external partners. Serving as the primary point of contact for all campus activities, the Director will ensure clear communication, coordinated execution, and alignment with organizational goals.

What You Will Get To Do
Technical Operations Leadership
  • Common understanding of mission-critical and hyperscale data center systems and operations.
  • Extensive knowledge of critical infrastructure with emphasis on Electrical or Mechanical Systems.
  • Define and drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce energy use, improve PUE, and increase facility resiliency.
  • Cultivate a relationship with tenants, contractors, and staff, ensuring alignment with CloudHQ's culture.
  • Support facility audits for compliance with corporate and industry requirements.
Commissioning, Troubleshooting, and Incident Response
  • Monitor commissioning, retro-commissioning, and re-commissioning activities for retrofit projects.
  • Promote team involvement in factory witness tests and other construction/development activities as needed.
  • Serve as escalation for incidents; lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions to restore and harden site performance.
  • Maintain on‑call rotation and rapid response playbooks for critical incidents.
  • Champion data‑driven monitoring and trending to detect performance drift and optimize operations.
  • Develop and review MOP/SOP/EOP and provide contingency plans where required.
Business & Client Engagement
  • Act as CloudHQ’s technical representative in client operations reviews and technical walk‑downs.
  • Support customer success by providing operational insight, lifecycle cost modeling, and reliability.
  • Advise on vendor selection, service contracts, and equipment strategies to align with operational goals.
  • Lead cross‑functional teams responsible for developing, managing, and tracking operational budgets.
  • Responsible for maintaining service level agreements consistently meeting or exceeding tenant expectations.
  • Champion capital improvement projects across all facilities, ensuring alignment with evolving business needs.
  • Oversee facility and drive cost‑saving initiatives that result in operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Mentor operations managers, technicians, and facilities lead; develop training, checklists, and knowledge base content.
  • Issue operational guidance and best practices and expand internal learning processes.
What You Bring To The Role
  • Minimum of 10 years in mission‑critical/data center operations.
  • Electrical or Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent with professional experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership of mission‑critical staff.
  • Proven success leading operational teams and programs.
  • Experience negotiating service contracts and managing vendor performance for security, electric or mechanical systems.
  • Track record of leading incident response, root‑cause analysis, and lifecycle performance programs.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, with demonstrated client‑facing and team leadership experience.
  • Responsible attitude with strong work ethic; leading by example in attendance, attitude and technical work product.
  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Also Possess
  • Tenured individual supporting hyperscale, colocation, or multi‑tenant enterprise data center operations.
  • Published operational papers, conference presentations, or recognized contributions to industry best practices.
Work Environment & Expectations
  • Primary activities in operations data centers and field sites with periodic office time; regular collaboration with engineering, construction, and product teams.
  • Travel to CloudHQ campuses in the US & international client locations and suppliers.
  • Participation in critical incident response.
  • Support, provide resources for CloudHQ’s global expansion.
  • Extensive experience in reviewing Construction Documents and project specifications, and providing operations improvements input.
  • Able to review construction administration activities for on‑going or day two projects adhering to CloudHQ standards and industry best practices.
