Job summary

Great Western Dining Service, Inc at Avila University is seeking a talented Chef to plan, prepare, and oversee the preparation of high-quality, nutritious meals for college students, faculty, and staff.

The role includes menu development, food preparation, supervision of kitchen staff, ensuring food safety compliance, and contributing to an inclusive dining experience that supports a diverse campus community.

Qualifications

• Degree in Culinary Arts preferred or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience in personnel management is required.
• Self-starter with the ability to multitask and stay composed under pressure.
• Strong leadership and team motivation abilities.
• Knowledge of HACCP controls and safe food handling practices.
• Experience with purchasing, food storage and sanitation.
• P&L and financial reporting experience.
• Familiarity with budgets, labor costs, and inventory controls.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and POS systems.

Responsibilities

• Supervise kitchen operations and ensure compliance with policies and laws.
• Develop menus, manage inventory, and control labor and food costs.
• Lead employee meetings and training programs.
• Implement safety, sanitation and maintenance programs.
• Maintain food quality while controlling costs.
• Guide team development and performance reviews.
• Handle purchasing and inventory controls.
• Perform related duties and special projects as assigned.
• Act as interim Food Service Director when required and manage staff.
