Overview

Under the leadership of the FYD Assistant Manager, the Camp Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of specific age groups of the summer camps (Performing Arts, Aquatics & STEM, Sports & Outdoor Adventure, or Adventure Camp) and leading the administration of its procedures, and regulations; staff and volunteer recruitment, hiring, training and supervision; public relations including communication with parents/guardians, schools, partnering agencies; and compliance with attendance records and meal count records.

The duties listed below are the primary duties of this position but are not all the duties that may be required. The Salvation Army reserves the right to change, reduce, or expand the duties of this position at any time. Staff Supervision
  • Assist with staff selection and performance evaluation.
  • With the assistance of the FYD Assistant Manager, provide staff with training and ongoing coaching on policies and procedures and elements of a high-quality program.
  • Oversee day-to-day schedule changes for staff & volunteers based on staffing needs.
  • Lead Instructors (Teachers) in the preparation and implementation of curriculum and instructional designs.
  • Assure compliance with Summer Food Service Program Policies and Licensing requirements.
  • Be a regular presence in all assigned classrooms to provide staff and volunteer feedback and assistance.
  • Attend and/or lead scheduled staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Ensure that the ultimate goal of spiritual, emotional and physical development of all people is represented in trainings, customer relations, and levels of operation.
Program Supervision
  • Consistently demonstrate positive discipline; firmly and consistently enforce the rules; express clear expectations and accountability; ensure that reprimand fits the misbehavior.
  • Develop and execute a response plan for campers who need accommodations, behavioral and/or crisis interventions and coach staff on the plan’s execution.
  • Maintain accurate program, employee, volunteer, and children’s records and submit written reports as assigned.
  • Requisition, inventory, and maintain program supplies and equipment, as needed.
  • Work with the FYD Assistant Manager to communicate with parents/guardians regarding program enrollment, operations, and student behavior.
  • Accompany staff and program participants during on-site and off-site activities.
  • Work in a team environment and encourage open communication regarding concerns/issues, especially with other Camp Supervisors and the FYD Manager.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Communicate with the FYD Manager daily regarding concerns/issues with the program, children, parents, or co-workers.
  • Adhere to and ensure adherence to policies and procedures as stated in manuals, trainings, and meetings, including those of the Kroc Center, The Salvation Army, Summer Food Service Program, NJ Department of Health, and KeepSAfe protocols.
  • Assure the maintenance of cleaning schedules including the completion of tasks listed on daily check lists.
  • Comply with all health, safety, and emergency procedures appropriate to the site and in conformity with procedures adopted by emergency service authorities to ensure the safety of the children and staff.
  • Report any/all health and or safety concerns regarding children, staff, parents, or facility immediately to the Health Coordinator.
  • Provide operational leadership in the execution of the Summer Food Service Program.
  • Organize and maintain adequate first aid resources for serving the health and medical needs of program participants and staff.
  • Respond to and properly treat injuries and illness events, maintaining the medical log.
  • Properly store and secure all medications used by program participants and implement standing orders issued by the campers’ physicians.
  • Minimum age of 21 years and 3 years prior experience working with children of varied ages, abilities, and special needs.
  • 2-year degree/college preferred.
  • Experience in supervision of youth and adults.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
  • TB test or chest x-ray with insignificant results and a physical clearing employee to work.
  • Successful Fingerprinting and background checks.
  • Professional level CPR certification and standard First Aid certification.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Can maintain a calm demeanor in emergency or confrontational situations.
  • Ability to keep confidences, loyalties, and practice professionalism.
  • Demonstrated work record of reliability and dependability.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Proven success engaging youth in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Can work a flexible schedule to meet program staffing/planning needs
