Job summary

YMCA of Greater San Francisco's Camp Jones Gulch is seeking a Program Staff member to lead engaging, safe activities for youth in an on-call, part-time capacity.

You will guide climbing, archery, canoeing, hiking, arts and crafts, and gardening, while supporting evening programs and team-building. The role emphasizes safety, inclusivity, and strong supervision in outdoor settings.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Complete and submit accurate reports (e.g., incident logs, health records, timecards) promptly.
• Support camp operations as needed, including tasks outside of regular activity facilitation.

Position Summary

The Camp Jones Gulch Program Staff, under the guidance of the Program Director, is responsible for leading engaging, safe, and enjoyable activities for youth and program participants. Staff will facilitate specialized activities such as climbing, zip-lining, archery, canoeing, hiking, arts and crafts, and gardening for campers and visiting groups. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with evening programs, teambuilding sessions, and maintaining program sites. This is an on-call position with no guaranteed or regular schedule.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

The Camp Jones Gulch Program Staff role involves working primarily outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain. Staff must be able to actively participate in physical activities such as hiking, climbing, paddling, and lifting or moving equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. This position requires sustained energy, attentiveness, and flexibility to adapt to changing program needs while maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for participants.
