Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Southern Territory is seeking a Head Dishwasher for Camp Keystone in Starke, Florida. This temporary full-time role supports daily camp dining operations, food preparation areas, and event meals, ensuring sanitation and safety standards are met.

You will be responsible for washing dishes, maintaining clean kitchen and dining spaces, and assisting with camp activities as needed. You will arrive early for meals, follow health regulations, and work as part of a camp team

Qualifications

  • Six months experience working in a kitchen preferred, or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Performs duties in accordance with regulatory guidelines and American Camp Association standards.
  • Maintains health regulations and hygiene (hand washing, hair tied back, closed-toe shoes).
  • Arrives 45 minutes before scheduled mealtime.
  • Keeps dishwasher temperatures and sanitation records where applicable.
  • Washes dishes, glassware, utensils, pots and pans after each meal.
  • Keeps kitchen and dining areas clean and orderly; manages waste and back dock cleaning.

Location: Camp Keystone, Starke, Florida

Position Type: Temporary Full-Time

About this opportunity:

Maintains the cleaning of dishes, kitchen, food preparation equipment, utensils.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards.
  • Maintains and follows all health regulations (i.e. washing of hands, keeping hair back, no open toed shoes, no tank tops).
  • Arrives 45 minutes before scheduled mealtime.
  • Remains on the job during meal times. No sitting down, eating or drinking during camper meal times or clean up times.
  • Keeps a daily account of dishwasher temperature; ensuring that was water temperature in mechanical dishwasher is at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit and rise water temperature is at least 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Report any problems with equipment to the Camp Dining Hall Supervisor.
  • Assist in ensuring initial rinse water temperature for handwashed dishes is at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit and the second rinse process is used with an approved chemical sanitizer.
  • Washes dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and/or pans using dishwashers or by hand after each meal.
  • Places clean dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment in storage areas that are protected from dust and contamination between uses.
  • Cleans dishwasher room area including walls and baseboards after each meal. Nothing is to be sitting on the floor.
  • Wipes down dining room wall by tray window after each meal and mop.
  • Maintains kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition.
  • Mops kitchen daily following evening meal; mop dish room following each meal.
  • Keeps outside area trash clean. Hose off back dock at the end of each day.
  • After each meal empty the trash cans and reline. Wash out garbage cans with water weekly.
  • Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
  • Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection.
  • Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What we are looking for in you:
  • Six months experience working in a kitchen preferred, or

Licenses and Certifications
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Some physical requirements of the Camp Head Dishwasher position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities are required.Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available.Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Additional Information:

Camp Staff Orientation will be held 06/2/2025 – 06/8/2025 and participation is required. The 2025 Summer Camp Program will be held 06/9/2025 – 07/19/2025. If you are unable to work the entire program session, please let us know on your application.
