Job summary

ESF Camps is hiring a Camp Counselor in the Chester Springs, PA area. You will supervise campers, assist with a variety of activities (art, STEM, swimming, sports), and help create a fun, safe, and educational summer experience for children from preschool to 8th grade.

The role involves 35–40 hours per week, Mon-Fri, with potential for extended hours. Training is provided, and staff enjoy a supportive team environment and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children; camp setting experience preferred.
  • Must be at least 17 by start of camp; Preschool-Kindergarten requires 18.
  • Hours are typically 35-40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with potential for extended hours.
  • Schedule changes must be pre-approved by the site director.
  • Complete ESF and state-mandated training and onboarding.
  • Maintain the ESF Look (camp uniform) and embody camp spirit.
  • Promote activities and collaborate with co-counselors for daily projects.
  • Ensure camper safety and positive group management; report concerns to the Site Director.
  • Be a positive role model reflecting ESF core values.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise campers and lead activities across arts, STEM, swimming, and sports.
  • Promote daily programs and projects with enthusiasm.
  • Coordinate with co-counselors to ensure a safe, fun camp environment.
  • Report emergencies or safety concerns to the Site Director.
  • Lift and move objects as needed (up to 35 pounds) during outdoor activities.

Requirements:

  • Experience: We are looking for experience working with children. Previous experience working with children in a camp setting is preferred.
  • Age Requirements:
    • Must be at least age 17 by the start of camp.
    • Mini Camp Division (Preschool-Kindergarten): Must be at least age 18 by the start of camp.
  • Hours: Typically, 35-40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with opportunities for extended hours. Actual scheduled hours vary by camp location and program.
  • Schedule Commitment: Any schedule changes or time off must be pre-approved by the site director.
  • Required Training: Complete all required ESF and state-mandated training and onboarding.
  • Dress Code: Maintain the "ESF Look" (camp uniform) and embody the spirit of the camp.
  • Dive into the Camp Day! Promote and participate in daily activities and projects with enthusiasm, collaborating effectively with co-counselors.
  • Safety & Positive Group Management: Ensure the safety and well-being of campers with an emphasis on positive behavior and effective group management. Promptly report any concerns to the Site Director.
  • Be the Ultimate Role Model: Supervise campers, while fostering a positive, welcoming, and safe environment.
    • Demonstrate ESF Core Values & Code daily, from “Gratitude” to “Bring It” daily.
    • Model the ESF Virtues of Character (Gratitude, Respect, Trustworthiness, Effort, Kindness, Positivity, Resilience, Community) in camp daily.
    • Adhere to all company policies.
  • Communication: Maintain clear, concise, and engaging communication with campers, families, peers, and our leadership team.
Reporting Relationships
  • Reports directly to and takes direction from the Camp Director, with additional accountability to the Site Director.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Push/pull, lift, and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds across campus. Work outside, upright, and mobile for six (6) to eight (8) hours per day
  • Respond to emergencies, including running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and ascending stairs without undue exertion.
