Job summary

Easterseals Tennessee is seeking a Camp Counselor to supervise and support campers (1-3 individuals) during sessions in December, March, and a full week in August, ensuring their health and safety under the Program Coordinator.

The role emphasizes engaging campers in planned activities, assisting with ADLs as needed, and promoting a positive, respectful environment while documenting notable events for quality care.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must have a high-school diploma or GED.
• Be able to pass a drug screening and background check.

Responsibilities

• Engage campers in daily planned activities and adapt as needed.
• Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as toileting, bathing, ambulating, transfers, feeding and dressing.
• Interact with campers in a respectful, age-appropriate and culturally sensitive manner.
• Help with teaching, coordinating and carrying out planned activities.
• Promote a positive environment.
• Model person-centered practices and respectful interactions.
• Maintain professionalism, courtesy and respect with campers, staff and visitors.
• Document camper activities or incidents as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, The Camp Counselor is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of their assigned camper(s), ranging from 1-3 individuals, during the camp session, long weekends in December and March and a full week in August.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ability to engage campers in daily planned activities, improvise, and adjust to changes in activities.
• Provide assistance with personal care and hygiene to persons while encouraging independence and self-care as appropriate. Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) such as toileting, bathing, ambulating, transfers, feeding, and dressing.
• Interact with persons supported in a respectful, age-appropriate and culturally-appropriate manner. Respect the preferences and requests of persons supported.
• Help with teaching, coordinating, and carrying out planned activities.
• Promote a positive environment.
• Model and promote person centered practices and respectful interactions with all people.
• Treat persons supported, staff, customers and visitors with professionalism, courtesy, and respect.
• Reports may be required to document the camper’s activities, behavioral incidents, or other events of note.
• Other duties as assigned.
