Job description

The CAM Engineer supports the transition of complex PCB designs into reliable, manufacturable products by evaluating design requirements against manufacturing capabilities and clearly communicating constraints, risks, and improvement opportunities across design engineering and production teams. This role works both upstream with design engineering and downstream with manufacturing, performing DFM reviews, identifying drawing and design issues, assessing process limitations, and helping determine whether the design or manufacturing process should be adjusted. Candidates with direct PCB CAM, PCB design, or PCB product engineering experience are strongly preferred, and individuals from adjacent CADintensive manufacturing environments may be considered if they have a strong technical foundation and can quickly learn PCB manufacturing requirements.

Job Title: CAM Engineer The CAM Engineer supports the transition of complex PCB designs into reliable, manufacturable products by evaluating design requirements against manufacturing capabilities and clearly communicating constraints, risks, and improvement opportunities across design engineering and production teams.

Responsibilities

  • Review complex PCB designs and determine how design requirements align with available manufacturing capabilities and process constraints.
  • Perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews and designrule checks to ensure PCB designs can be produced reliably and efficiently.
  • Identify errors, inconsistencies, or manufacturability concerns in PCB drawings and designs and clearly communicate findings to design engineering teams.
  • Work directly with manufacturing teams to evaluate production requirements, tooling needs, and process limitations, and recommend design or process changes as appropriate.
  • Support PCB manufacturing considerations including drill aspect ratios, tooling requirements, and overall process capability across the production flow.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the broader PCB manufacturing process rather than focusing on a single isolated step, and use that knowledge to guide design decisions.
  • Use CAM and CAD tools to support the transition from PCB design into manufacturing, including data preparation, verification, and optimization.
  • Develop CAM automation scripts and post processors at the engineering level to improve efficiency, consistency, and quality in the CAM workflow.
  • Interpret engineering designs and drawings to determine manufacturing implications and ensure that design intent is accurately translated into production.
  • Apply knowledge of IPC standards and PCB manufacturing best practices when reviewing designs and advising engineering and production teams.
  • Communicate technical issues, risks, and recommendations effectively between design, engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional stakeholders, demonstrating strong teamwork, ownership, and motivation to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Adhere to ethical and safetyminded conduct in all engineering and manufacturing activities.

Essential Skills

  • Direct experience in PCB CAM, PCB design, or PCB product engineering, or closely related CADintensive manufacturing environments.
  • Understanding of PCB manufacturing processes, including key steps, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Handson experience with CAM and/or relevant CAD software tools used in PCB or similar manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles and designrule checking for PCB designs.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards and their application to PCB design and manufacturing.
  • Ability to interpret engineering designs and drawings and accurately determine manufacturing implications.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues, constraints, and recommendations clearly between design and manufacturing teams.
  • Understanding of the broader PCB manufacturing process and how individual process steps interact.
  • Experience with scripting and postprocessor development within CAM environments to automate and optimize workflows.
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical engineering experience.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively across different functions.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ownership of tasks and responsibilities, with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • High motivation and willingness to learn new tools, processes, and technologies.
  • Ethical, safetyminded conduct in engineering and production settings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with PCBspecific CAM tools such as InCAM or similar platforms; the organization is open to candidates with experience in other CAM software.
  • Technical foundation from CADintensive manufacturing environments outside of PCB, with the ability to quickly learn PCBspecific requirements.
  • Experience developing CAM automation scripts and custom post processors to streamline data preparation and manufacturing workflows.
  • Ability to build an endtoend understanding of PCB manufacturing flow, from design input through final production.
  • Level 1 experience: generally under 3 years of relevant CAM, PCB, or CADintensive manufacturing experience.
  • Level 2 experience: approximately 35 years of relevant experience in CAM engineering, PCB design, or PCB product engineering.
  • Seniorlevel experience: generally beyond Level 2, with deeper expertise in PCB manufacturing, CAM automation, and crossfunctional collaboration.
  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and followthrough on engineering tasks and production support.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and operations stakeholders to align design intent with production capabilities.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role in a manufacturing and engineering environment, working Monday through Friday with overtime as needed based on production demands and project timelines. The CAM Engineer collaborates closely with design engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams, using CAM and CAD software tools such as InCAM or comparable platforms, along with standard engineering and office tools. The setting involves active engagement with PCB manufacturing processes, equipment, and documentation, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and crossfunctional teamwork.
