Position Summary:

The CAM & Graphics Production Technician prepares accurate production files and operates graphics and computer-aided manufacturing equipment used to produce interior and exterior signage. This position reviews approved drawings, sign schedules, message schedules, artwork, and production instructions; prepares files for the appropriate equipment and materials; and supports graphics, fabrication, and assembly operations. The technician is responsible for accuracy, quality, equipment care, and completing assigned work according to production schedules.

Key Responsibilities:
File Preparation and Prepress
  • Review work orders, approved drawings, sign schedules, message schedules, artwork, samples, and production instructions before beginning work.
  • Prepare, typeset, and organize production files for interior and exterior signage.
  • Convert approved designs and customer-supplied artwork into production-ready files.
  • Apply the appropriate file settings, dimensions, colors, cut paths, routing information, and machine requirements for each production process.
  • Confirm that fonts, messages, spelling, dimensions, colors, quantities, and layouts match approved project documents.
  • Identify missing information, conflicting instructions, incorrect artwork, or other discrepancies and request direction before releasing files to production.
  • Maintain organized production files using established naming, storage, and version-control procedures.
Graphics and CAM Production
  • Set up and operate large-format printers, vinyl plotters, laminators, laser cutters, CNC routers, and related equipment when trained and authorized.
  • Select appropriate materials, substrates, tools, and equipment settings for each job.
  • Load materials and complete required equipment setup, test cuts, test prints, or other preproduction checks.
  • Produce printed graphics, cut vinyl, routed components, laser-cut materials, and other sign elements according to approved specifications.
  • Laminate, weed, mask, trim, organize, and prepare graphics or components for the next stage of production.
  • Apply vinyl graphics when trained and assigned.
  • Perform color matching and output adjustments using approved samples and production standards.
Quality and Production Support
  • Inspect completed work for accurate messages, dimensions, color, alignment, cut quality, print quality, and consistency with approved drawings.
  • Confirm that completed graphics and components meet work-order requirements before releasing them to the next production stage.
  • Track job progress and time accurately using the appropriate production or scheduling system.

  • Report equipment malfunctions, damaged tools, software issues, or maintenance needs before continued use.
  • Maintain an organized workstation and keep equipment, tools, materials, and production areas clean.
  • Follow company safety procedures and applicable workplace safety requirements.
  • Use required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, or face protection when applicable.
  • Follow approved procedures for handling and disposing of inks, adhesives, solvents, cleaning materials, and other regulated waste.
  • Report injuries, incidents, near misses, spills, and unsafe conditions promptly.
