Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Calibration Lab Manager / Branch Manager to lead daily laboratory operations, technical staff, quality, productivity, customer relationships, and business objectives. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on calibration experience combined with leadership and operational management skills.
The successful candidate will oversee calibration operations, personnel, workflow, quality systems, scheduling, equipment, and customer relationships. Depending on experience and the company’s evolving needs, the role may have a stronger focus on laboratory management, branch operations, or a combination of both. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong communication with technicians, engineers, customers, vendors, auditors, and senior management while balancing technical, operational, and business needs.
Responsibilities:
Calibration & Laboratory Operations
- Oversee daily calibration operations, workflow, staffing, productivity, capacity, and turnaround while ensuring accurate and timely customer work.
- Provide technical guidance on calibration procedures, instrumentation, measurement systems, standards, traceability, uncertainty, calibration intervals, and out-of-tolerance conditions across multiple disciplines.
Quality & Compliance
- Maintain compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, A2LA, NIST traceability, ANSI/NCSL, and MQC quality procedures; ensure accurate calibration records, certificates, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Support internal, A2LA, and customer audits, including preparation, nonconformances, corrective actions, customer complaints, and continuous improvement.
Leadership & Personnel
- Lead, train, develop, and hold calibration technicians and laboratory personnel accountable while assigning work based on qualifications, workload, and customer requirements.
- Identify training and cross-training needs while maintaining a professional, safe, quality-focused, and team-oriented environment.
Branch & Business Operations
- Monitor KPIs, workload, turnaround, productivity, and resource needs; assist with staffing, budgeting, purchasing, equipment, and business growth initiatives.
- Build customer relationships, resolve technical or service escalations, and partner with sales and customer service to support retention and business development.
Safety, Facility & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain a safe, organized laboratory and ensure equipment, environmental conditions, facilities, and maintenance support calibration activities.
- Identify bottlenecks and implement improvements to processes, efficiency, quality, turnaround, and overall laboratory performance.
Requirements and Skills:
- Must have 7-10 years of bench calibration/metrology experience.
- Proven management experience leading calibration laboratory, technical, or branch operations.
- Strong knowledge of calibration processes, instrumentation, measurement systems, metrology principles, and multiple disciplines including electrical, dimensional, mechanical, temperature, pressure, RF, and/ or physical.
- Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, A2LA, NIST traceability, ANSI/NCSL, audits, measurement uncertainty, and out-of-tolerance conditions preferred.
- Military PMEL/TMDE/DOD calibration experience preferred.
- Proven leadership, communication, customer-service, organizational, time-management, prioritization, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Experience with calibration management software, ERP/LIMS, and Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and turnaround requirements.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. for potential onsite customer visits.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required.
