Job description

Pixels On Target is a non-traditional defense contractor building technology for customers in MIL/GOV/LE. We move fast like a commercial team, while meeting the security and compliance expectations that come with supporting our customers.

This role owns, extends and keeps reliable the automated systems that calibrate and test our camera products, and serves as the go-to person for diagnosing and fixing issues on the test and calibration line. It works hands-on across software and hardware to build automation, write tests and resolve real production failures.

The role directly supports our quality objectives by making sure every product is calibrated and tested consistently before it ships. By turning recurring failures into permanent fixes and preventing defects rather than reacting to them, it protects product quality, on-time delivery and customer satisfaction as we scale to higher volume and new products.

  • Automation ownership: Build, maintain and extend the automation that calibrates and tests our products.
  • Root-cause analysis: Diagnose failures from logs and system behavior, and isolate root cause across software, firmware and hardware.
  • Production support: Support the test and calibration line by triaging failed runs, supporting operators and turning recurring issues into permanent fixes.
  • Scaling: Design and build new automation for higher volume and new products.
  • Test coverage: Write and maintain automated tests so changes ship safely.
  • Effective tooling: Use AI development tools to move quickly without sacrificing quality.
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong Python skills and solid software fundamentals; professional Python experience is a plus
  • Comfort working at the hardware-software boundary, controlling and communicating with hardware from code
  • Strong debugging skills, able to find root cause from logs and intermittent symptoms
  • A testing mindset and experience with automated testing
  • Comfortable on Windows (device and port troubleshooting) and with Git
  • Effective with AI coding tools, such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT
  • Clear written and verbal communication
Preferred
  • Camera or imaging knowledge
  • Experience automating lab or hardware test setups
  • GUI development in Python
  • Low-level, firmware or register-level hardware interaction
  • Electronics, hardware or test-fixture experience
Personal attributes
  • A builder-operator who owns a system end to end, from hardware to code to the production floor.
  • Calm and methodical under production pressure; investigates failures rather than guessing.
  • Pragmatic about reliability; prefers preventing failures to firefighting them.
  • Self-directed, with the judgment to know when to ask.
Export control & security requirements
  • U.S. Person status: This role requires U.S. Person status under ITAR (22 C.F.R. § 120.62).
  • Security clearance: This job may require eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Physical & environmental requirements

The requirements below are essential functions of the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform them.

  • Stand and walk for extended periods while supporting the test and calibration line.
  • Handle small components, cables and test fixtures, which requires fine motor skills.
  • Respond to production issues as needed, which may occasionally require time outside regular hours.
