Job Description

The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintains bakery department stocked and appealing to meet customer demand. Smiles and greets customers, makes suggestions, answers questions about products and cake preparation. Resolves customer concerns promptly and courteously. Takes orders over the phone or in person with a pleasant attitude. Determines customer preferences in size, flavor and appearance. Creates the finished decorated product in a timely manner.
• Decorates cakes and other bakery products using dye, specific designs or custom designs. Uses a variety of creams, frostings and fillings with consistent outcome. Makes icing for cakes and related products. Adheres to company approved recipes.
• Trims and cuts cakes to required shape and size. Spreads icing between layers and on surfaces. Tints white icing to required colors.
• Assists in filling and merchandising the bakery sales area while adhering to production logs. Creates cakes, pastries, etc. for sale in the service case. Follows rotation and markdown policies to ensure quality and freshness. Helps maintain inventory levels with proper ordering and production logging.
• May assist with receiving, unloading, checking‑in, breaking‑down, and storing deliveries using a power jack or hand jack if properly trained (training provided).
• May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained (training provided).
• Responsible for general sanitation in the department. Follows cleaning schedules and department guidelines to maintain clean work areas, equipment, counters, display cases and meet all health and OSHA requirements. Disposes of trash properly.
• Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co‑workers and supervisors. Continually improves job performance.
• Utilises all company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including cut‑resistant gloves, safety cutters, company‑sponsored footwear, etc.
• May also be called upon to assist in other departments.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position currently has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. 1–2 years’ experience in decorating.
