Job summary

The Learning Lamp in Ebensburg, PA, is seeking a Cafeteria Assistant for part-time, school-year hours (Mon-Fri, 2 hours daily). You will help manage students during meals, deliver friendly customer service, and support smooth lunch operations.

Requirements include a high school diploma, willingness to complete background checks and TB tests, and the ability to stand for long periods. Prior experience with special needs students is a plus; we offer training and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Ability to sit/stand for long periods and assist in cafeteria.

  • Discretion and confidentiality with student information.

Responsibilities

  • Manage students during meal service.
  • Provide positive customer service and assist students.
  • Circulate in cafeteria and assist as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of cafeteria and lunch areas.
  • Dismiss classes in an orderly manner.
  • Encourage good table manners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What are the duties and responsibilities?
Cafeteria Assistance
  • Manage students during meal service (behavior problems should be referred to the teacher or principal according to guidelines established by each school site)
  • Communicate with students and school staff in a positive and professional manner utilizing appropriate customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Circulate throughout the cafeteria or in areas where meals are served and/or eaten, assisting students who need help
  • Assist with the cleanliness of the cafeteria/lunch rooms
  • Dismisses classes in an orderly manner at the scheduled time
  • Encourage good table manners
  • Other duties as assigned
What are the required qualifications?
  • High school diploma is the minimum education requirement.
  • Willingness to go through and pass the required clearances and training to ensure the safety and security of our children, including mandated reporter training, physical, and TB test. This can typically be accomplished within a week to get you started.
  • Capacity for sitting, standing, walking, bending and stopping for long periods of time, as these happen throughout the eight-hour day.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with special needs or disabilities is preferred.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work collaboratively with a team, and adapt to changing situations.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and privacy requirements related to student information.
