Job summary

Job description

Accept full time responsibility for planning, organizing, developing, directing and evaluating the activities of the food service department. Interact tactfully and positively with Residents and staff, both professional and non-professional, as well as government agency representatives and the general public.Principal Duties and Responsibilities Assure Resident safety at all times. Willing to address each Resident by his/her preferred name as well as learn and abide by Residents’ Rights, rules and regulations. Commitment to work well with other staff avoiding petty conflicts that disrupt a productive work environment. Does not participate in facility gossip and rumors. Complies with company policy and willing to encourage the compliance of others with company policy. Maintain food services in compliance with current state/federal regulations as well as facility/consultant policies, procedures and budget. Conduct regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety, and employee performance to ensure high quality food. Demonstrate tact, patience, and a cheerful disposition when dealing with Residents, family members and visitors. Communicate with physicians, consultants and department managers routinely to plan and maintain the highest possible quality food service. Consistently assist with the assessment of Residents’ dietary intake and follow through with the appropriate plan of care and documentation. Ensure quality food services to meet individual needs. Maintain confidentiality of all activities, persons, and records. Interview each Resident or family members to obtain accurate diet history. Ensure effective implementation of individual diet plans. Involve Resident/family in planning realistic goals and objectives. Maintain current record of Residents’ likes and dislikes. Counsel with Residents regarding therapeutic diet and eating habits. Ensure food served is tasty, attractive and at the proper temperature. Actively participate in interdisciplinary care plan of each Resident. Provide comfortable, clean and safe environment. Maintain clean, well-organized and attractive dining areas. Assist in screening and selecting competent dietary personnel. Scheduling and personnel management, to insure adequate staff to accomplish work assignments and to make maximum use of individual capabilities. Monitor workflow procedures and techniques to ensure adherence to safety and infection control policies and procedure. Show fair and equitable treatment, confidentiality, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property, Civil Right, and right to file a complaint. Meet deadlines in preparation of timecards for payroll. Initiates disciplinary action when warranted. Preservation of dignity, individuality and independence. Promptly address dietary related complaints. Cooperate with restorative/rehabilitative aspect of care. Provide each physician with information necessary to plan effective dietary management. Include lists of diets currently available in facility. Provide feedback to physician regarding Residents’ weight stability. Report deviations from prescribed diet plan. Assure adherence to physician’s dietary orders by monitoring therapeutic and regular menus. Evaluate Residents’ cooperation with prescribed dietary regimen and document accurately. Stay up to date regarding healthcare food service requirements. Maintain properly functioning equipment. Ensure proper storage and maintenance of food supplies. Ascertain that meals are served within appropriate time frames. Provide information necessary for effective budget preparation and control. Route necessary reports to Executive Director within established deadlines. Keep current records, which accurately reflect department expenditures. Establish cost of individual meals by the beginning of each menu cycle. Compare products for best quality and economy. Maintain adequate stock levels of foods, supplies and equipment in a limited access area. Ensure that dietary documentation in each clinical record is factual, timely and descriptive regarding Residents’ response to food service. Review all department accident/incident reports for accuracy and completeness and forward to Executive Director within the established deadlines. Promptly process dietary changes and new diet orders. Maintain standardized recipe file. Standardize work methods. Maintain all file menus and menu substitutions according to current regulations. Secure department during off-duty hours. Regular attendance, interaction with employees, and provide important and valuable service for the facility’s Residents is an integral requirement for this position to accomplish the work. In order to accomplish this, it is imperative for the person filling this position to be present and accessible to staff, Residents and Residents’ family members during normal business hours, and as needed for emergencies, unless a business related matter require the employee to be off the premises. Meet with committees or other groups as necessary to plan food service programs and activities. Resident preferences are followed when providing care and service. Maintain Resident privacy, values and right for decision making. Immediately notify supervisor and Executive Director for any injury, illness, or if develop a condition, that might impact the aptitude to perform job functions.Ancillary Duties and Responsibilities Perform duties in compliance with established policies and procedures. Note changes in Resident’s condition and report immediately to charge nurse or Director of Nursing. Periodically visits Residents to obtain feedback about quality of meals served. Implements mechanisms for inventory control by checking incoming orders with accompanying invoices. Forward invoices to accounting expediently. Establish and maintain positive rapport with administration, interdepartmental personnel, volunteers, Residents, visitors and outside agency representatives. Attend seminars, continuing education classes, workshops, etc. and implements resulting ideas. Read current professional literature and participate in professional organizations and networking opportunities. Remain alert to health safety standards by reporting expediently to his/her Executive Director suspected unsafe conditions and responds according to policies and procedures during fire/disaster drills and emergencies. Know the duties and tasks of all dietary positions and can comfortably and accurately perform them. Establish annual objectives by achieving at least two (2) objectives related to job in a twelve-month period and setting personal goals for self-fulfillment. Ensure adequate orientation for new dietary personnel. Provide ongoing in-service educational opportunities for staff by planning topics based on employee need at convenient times for the employees. Ensure continuity of routine workflow during classes. Maintain records of pertinent information. Review departmental policies, procedures, job descriptions, manuals, etc. Ensure that all dietary employees adhere to established policies and procedures. Maintain open communication with employees to receive and resolve work-related problems. Perform quality assurance reviews at least quarterly. Organize department for optimal efficiency by maintaining adequate reference materials to enable employees to maintain quality food service. Legally and safely operate automotive equipment. Adhere to and comply with any applicable facility insurance guidelines to enable coverage under the policy. Accepts additional assignments within scope of training, education or experience that may be assigned from time to time by the Executive Director.Resident Rights Maintain the confidentiality of all Resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information. Ensure that the Resident’s rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints, are well established and maintained at all times. Review Resident complaints and grievances and make written reports of action taken. Discuss such actions with Resident and family as appropriate.Safety and Sanitation Ensure that you and all facility personnel, Residents, visitors, etc., follow established safety regulations, to include fire protection/prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, etc. Ensure that the building and grounds are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner as well as in good working order by reporting all concerns to the Executive Director. Ensure that you and all facility personnel follow established regulations governing the use of labels and SDSs for hazardous chemicals. Ensure that facility procedure manuals identify safety precautions and equipment to use when performing tasks that could cause bodily injury or exposure to a hazardous chemical or infectious waste. Ensure that you and all facility personnel follow established ergonomics policies and procedures to prevent self-injury. Ensure that you and all facility personnel performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous chemicals are appropriately trained prior to performing such tasks. Successful completion of a nationally-recognized credentialing exam as well as fulfilling requirements to maintain certified status. Two years’ successful supervisory experience preferred.
