Job summary

Veterans Canteen Service at the Kansas City VA Medical Center is hiring part-time Food Service Workers for fast-paced cafes and retail markets. You will prepare beverages and a variety of food items, maintain sanitation, and ensure fresh storage while following approved procedures to serve America's Heroes.

Requirements include a valid REAL ID, ability to read and perform basic math, and willingness to stand, walk, and lift up to 40 pounds.

Qualifications

• A current valid REAL ID is required to work at Veterans Canteen Service.
• Ability to read instructions and perform basic math for food preparation.
• Requires constant standing, walking, and frequent bending.
• Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the food service industry is preferred but not necessary.
• Excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepares beverages including coffee, latte, cappuccino, and smoothies.
• Prepares and assembles breakfast and lunch items such as sandwiches, wraps, pancakes and burritos.
• Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of the workplace, equipment, and utensils in compliance with health and safety standards.
• Properly stores food to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
• Prepares a variety of foods according to customer orders or supervisor instructions.
• Will be exposed to varying temperatures, including hot and cold.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
