Job summary

James River Church’s Joplin Campus Café is seeking a Barista to deliver friendly, efficient service and accurate cash handling in a fast-paced setting. You will be trained in the cafe procedures and safety protocols while contributing to a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors.

Responsibilities include operating espresso machines, handling sales, assisting with light baking, and maintaining a clean, organized workspace. Flexibility, reliability, and a customer-focused attitude are essential.

Job description

Under the direction of the Food Services Director and Joplin Campus Café Lead, this position provides quality food service to all customers. The Barista should be knowledgeable of the building layout as they are often looked to as an information point. The barista should have exceptional social skills and maintain a professional and positive manner. This includes detailed knowledge of the James River Cafe coffee drink procedure as well as day to day operations of the cafe.

Responsible for handling monetary transactions: Must be able to accurately conduct sale transactions, maintain a balanced sales drawer and make café deposits.

With proper training, must be able to operate espresso/ brewing machines, bake, and clean.

Must be able to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.

Must be able to maintain a safe environment.

Must be able to follow daily open and close procedures when applicable.

Must be able to adjust to changes in plans and put the solution into action.

Job Requirements

Demonstrates great character such as but not limited to honesty, integrity, and a positive attitude.

The barista will receive training upon hire on required responsibilities as well as continual training in café procedures and safety.

Manage inventory and supplies

Receive deliveries and confirm accuracy of invoice

Perform other related duties as assigned and required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to communicate in an effective and professional manner.

The barista will receive training upon hire on required responsibilities as well as continual training in café procedures and safety.

Willing to receive Food Handlers or ServSafe certification.

Able to lift 30 pounds, bend and twist

Able to stand for long periods of time

Perform other related duties as assigned and required.
