Job summary

LJA Surveying is seeking a CAD Technician to provide drafting support for assigned projects, applying engineering technology knowledge in surveying. The role involves working with field crews and producing survey plats, sketches, and exhibits.

The candidate will prepare control data sheets, manage construction layout calculations, and ensure compliance with Florida standards. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school or technical school with CAD courses or equivalent experience.
• 2-5 years of survey experience.
• CADD experience is required.
• Trimble Business Center experience preferred.
• Solid proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
• Attention to detail, organized.
• Strong communication skills both oral and written.

Responsibilities

• Process conventional field notes and digitally collected data, analyze field data, and interact with survey field crews.
• Use survey data for the creation of survey plats, sketches, and exhibits including surveys for builder services.
• Create Survey Control Data Sheets, Survey Control Index Sheets, Horizontal & Vertical Control Sheets.
• Compute data points for construction layout.
• Understand technical survey requirements and Florida standards of practice.
• Write/check Metes & Bounds Descriptions.

POSITION OVERVIEW

CAD Technician at LJA Surveying, you will be responsible for drafting support for assigned projects independently with working knowledge of engineering technology in a specific field.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE

• Process conventional field notes and digitally collected data, analyze field data, and interact with survey field crews.
• Use survey data for the creation of survey plats, Sketches, and exhibits including surveys for builder services (vacant, form board, foundation, and final surveys)
• Create Survey Control Data Sheets, Survey Control Index Sheets, Horizontal & Vertical Control Sheets
• Compute data points for construction layout
• Understand technical survey requirements and specifications of the State of Florida standards of practice
• Write/check Metes & Bounds Descriptions

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS

• Minimum of high school or technical school training with courses in computer‑aided drafting or equivalent experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 2-5 years of survey experience
• CADD experience is required
• Trimble Business Center experience preferred
• Solid proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
• Attention to detail, organized
• Strong communication skills both oral and written
• Ability to work well in a team‑focused environment
• Must be flexible to changes in work assignments on short notice and/or daily as changes occur in project need
