CAD Technician - Substation Location: Remote About the Role ExecuPOWER is seeking a CAD Technician - Substation Services to support the development and delivery of electrical substation design and engineering projects for utility clients. The CAD Technician will work closely with Substation Engineers, Designers, Project Managers, and other CAD Technicians to develop accurate, high-quality electrical drawings and engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle. This position is ideal for a CAD professional with 2+ years of electrical substation or related utility drafting experience who is comfortable working in AutoCAD and/or Bentley MicroStation and understands the importance of drawing accuracy, client standards, deadlines, and quality control. This is a remote position, and candidates must be comfortable collaborating with geographically dispersed engineering and design teams. What You'll Do Substation CAD & Drafting

• Develop and modify electrical substation drawings in accordance with company and client standards.
• Draft using AutoCAD and/or Bentley MicroStation.
• Prepare new drawing packages and modify existing engineering drawings.
• Develop and update as-built documentation based on engineering and field information.
• Accurately incorporate design changes, revisions, redlines, and markups into project drawings.
• Work with raster drawings and other source documentation as required.
• Maintain consistent drafting standards, drawing organization, symbology, and documentation practices.
• Assist with the preparation of construction and engineering drawing packages.

Project Support

• Support engineers and designers in the development of substation engineering documentation.
• Manage assigned drafting tasks from initiation through completion with guidance from a Lead CAD Technician, Designer, or Engineer.
• Monitor assigned deadlines and communicate project status, challenges, and potential delays.
• Prioritize multiple assignments based on project needs and deadlines, including:
  • IFC - Issued for Construction
  • As-Built packages
  • Manufacturer Order packages
  • TTP packages
  • IFR - Issued for Review
  • Internal design reviews
• Coordinate with engineers, designers, project managers, and other CAD technicians to ensure timely project delivery.
• Remain productive across multiple projects and communicate with project leadership when additional assignments are available.

Quality Assurance & Peer Review

• Perform assigned peer checks of substation drawings and CAD deliverables.
• Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with applicable standards.
• Identify drafting issues and communicate design questions or discrepancies to the appropriate engineer or designer.
• Maintain a high level of attention to detail throughout the drafting and review process.
• Support continuous improvement of CAD standards, templates, workflows, and documentation practices.

Communication & Collaboration

• Participate in project meetings and drafting coordination discussions.
• Serve as a point of contact for assigned drafting activities with guidance from project leadership.
• Communicate proactively with engineers, designers, and CAD team members regarding project requirements and deadlines.
• Work effectively with remote team members and cross-functional project teams.
• Escalate questions, resource constraints, or technical issues when additional guidance is required.

Standards & Continuous Improvement

• Stay current with applicable client drafting standards, company procedures, and industry practices.
• Apply current standards consistently to all assigned deliverables.
• Support initiatives to improve drafting efficiency, quality, and project delivery.
• Stay informed about emerging CAD technologies and industry practices.
• Assist with developing and improving long-term CAD and substation design processes.

What You'll Bring Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Computer-Aided Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; OR
• High school diploma/GED with at least one year of formal drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
• Minimum 2 years of electrical substation drafting, utility drafting, or related electrical CAD experience.
• Experience creating and modifying substation electrical design drawings.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, or similar CAD software.
• Experience manipulating and incorporating raster drawings and other electronic design files.
• Working knowledge of electrical drafting standards, techniques, and procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and competing priorities.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote, team-oriented environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and OneNote.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting electric utility substation engineering projects.
• Experience with electrical substation drawings such as:
  • One-line diagrams
  • Three-line diagrams
  • Control schematics
  • Wiring diagrams
  • Panel drawings
  • Equipment layouts
  • Control house layouts
  • Grounding drawings
  • Conduit/cable schedules
• Experience with intelligent CAD or engineering design software.
• Experience with 3D CAD or 3D drafting applications.
• Familiarity with utility/client-specific CAD standards.
• Experience working within a formal engineering quality control or peer review process.
