Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent in drafting or engineering tech.
  • At least 1 year of manual drafting experience.
  • 2–5 years CAD experience with listed software.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and structural design.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; bilingual a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate fabrication of product prototypes for design accuracy.
  • Establish and maintain customer specification files and prototype requirements.
  • Develop structural designs and concrete footing details; provide stamped drawings when required.
  • Prepare weekly status reports on projects and production progress.
  • Create, update, and distribute engineering drawings; generate BOMs and ECNs.

Job Description:

The CAD Technician supports the design, development, and production of products from initial concept through prototyping and final manufacturing. This role is responsible for producing accurate technical drawings, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards, and supporting timely project delivery.

  • Key responsibilities include managing assigned new product development projects, coordinating all phases from concept through prototyping, and maintaining the integrity of customer design specifications. The CAD Technician develops project timelines, tracks progress, and ensures key milestones are achieved.
  • Using company-provided CAD software, the CAD Technician creates detailed drawings and assists in the research and development of new products, particularly for signage applications. Additional responsibilities may include product testing, technical documentation, and research initiatives as assigned by the Director of Engineering.
  • In collaboration with external engineering partners, this role supports the development of structural designs, including high wind-load signage and concrete foundation requirements. The CAD Technician also assists in meeting customer and regulatory requirements by preparing detailed footing drawings and supporting engineering documentation in compliance with applicable municipal codes and ordinances.
  • Essential Functions / Job Responsibilities:
    • Lead and coordinate the fabrication of product prototypes to ensure design accuracy and manufacturability.
    • Establish and maintain comprehensive customer specification files, including all prototype manufacturing requirements.
    • Research and evaluate emerging technologies and materials for potential integration into signage products.
    • Develop structural designs and concrete footing details; provide stamped engineering drawings when required.
    • Prepare and present weekly status reports, including updates on on-hold projects, delayed jobs, and overall production progress.
    • Produce detailed shop drawings for custom signage on a daily basis, as well as standardized drawings for high-volume products and prototypes.
    • Maintain and update existing drawings to reflect current manufacturing processes and best practices.
    • Utilize the ABBA system to generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routing documentation.
    • Collaborate with Customer Service to ensure engineering drawings and graphic illustrations accurately reflect customer requirements.
    • Partner with shop personnel to verify products are manufactured in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
    • Provide technical support to shop personnel by addressing inquiries and clarifying drawings throughout the production lifecycle.
    • Evaluate shop-requested changes and determine acceptable alternatives that do not increase production costs.
    • Create, implement, and distribute Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) across the organization, ensuring all relevant drawings are updated accordingly.
    • Interpret and apply technical and engineering drawings with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Minimum Qualifications / Skills:
  • Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of manual drafting experience, including academic or technical training.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of experience using CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Inventor, or MicroStation.
  • Experience (type and amount of experience required):
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and structural design principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; bilingual abilities are a plus but not required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
