Job summary

Volkert, Inc. is seeking Junior and Senior CAD Technicians for the Southwest Region, with offices in Austin, Houston, McKinney, Rockwall, Round Rock, San Antonio, or Tyler, TX. The role focuses on coordinating geometric design projects and supporting engineers on roadway tasks.

Responsibilities include creating roadway plan sets in OpenRoads Designer, preparing production sheets, and developing 3D models. A technical associate degree and OpenRoads Designer experience are required, with 3–15

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in a technical field
• Experience using OpenRoads Designer on roadway projects
• 3–15 years of roadway drafting experience; less with a CAD degree considered
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening per federal/state guidelines
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory MVR

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers with OpenRoads Designer roadway plan sets and minor design tasks
• Contribute to production sheets by adding dimensions and layouts
• Prepare minor calculations for roadway/bridge projects
• Develop 3D models with OpenRoads Designer
• Research codes and guidelines for design compliance
• Coordinate tasks with team leaders and submit QC reviews
• Support other groups as needed and contribute to a collaborative team
• Demonstrate strong communication across disciplines

We are currently searching for a Junior level and Senior level CAD Technician to support our Southwest Region located in Austin, Houston, McKinney, Rockwall, Round Rock, San Antonio, or Tyler, TX.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordination and oversight of geometric design projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Provide assistance to engineers using OpenRoads Designer to create roadway plan sets and perform minor design work on roadway projects
• Contribute to project production sheets by adding dimensions and laying out plans, title and detail sheets on production sets of plans
• Prepare minor mathematical calculations and quantity calculations for roadway/bridge projects
• Work with engineers to develop 3D models using both OpenRoads Designer
• Research applicable design codes and guidelines to ensure design compliance
• Research design options and documents findings
• Coordinates assignments with project team and supervisor
• Perform quality control reviews of design plans and calculations
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
• Be a team player and assist other groups as needed

What You Need To Have

• Associate degree from a technical or four-year school
• Experience in OpenRoads Designer
• 3-15 years of prior experience with roadway drafting
• Under 3 years experience will be evaluated if applicant has a degree in Computer Aided Drafting or similar field
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

Bonus Points If You Have

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Degree in Computer Aided Drafting or similar field
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a team environment
