Job summary

CEM Corporation in Matthews, NC is seeking an experienced CAD Technician to support the Engineering team. You will create and modify 2D drawings and 3D CAD models, maintain CAD standards, and provide day-to-day CAD support across mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing interfaces.

The ideal candidate has an associate or bachelor’s in a related field and at least 3 years of CAD drafting experience, with proficiency in 2D drafting, 3D modeling, and Creo or similar software.

CEM Corporation is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented CAD Technician to support the Engineering organization through CAD drafting, modeling, system administration, and technical design support. This role is responsible for creating and modifying engineering drawings and models, maintaining CAD standards and resources, supporting CAD users, and reviewing engineering documentation for accuracy and consistency.

The CAD Technician will work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, and other Engineering team members to support product development and sustaining engineering activities. The position will provide expanded CAD support for engineering projects, including component design, cable and harness routing, tolerancing, assembly procedures, and PCB interface requirements, while serving as the primary resource for CAD software administration, standards, and best practices.

CAD Technician responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Create and modify 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models to support new and existing CEM products
• Develop detailed drawings from engineering concepts, specifications, existing designs, and marked‑up documentation
• Provide CAD design support for mechanical components, assemblies, cable and harness routing, and PCB interface requirements
• Create and modify Assembly Procedures (Aps), engineering drawings, and other manufacturing documentation
• Incorporate appropriate dimensions, tolerances, annotations, and specifications into engineering drawings
• Create or modify basic 3D components and existing geometries as needed to support Engineering projects
• Prepare and provide appropriate 2D drawings and 3D CAD files for vendors, Manufacturing, and other internal or external partners
• Review and check CAD drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, proper tolerancing, and compliance with established Engineering standards
• Identify recurring drawing and modeling issues and recommend improvements to CAD practices, standards, and training
• Administer CAD software, including licensing, software updates, configurations, and user access
• Develop, maintain, and administer CAD standards, templates, libraries, drawing formats, and modeling best practices
• Serve as a technical resource for CAD users by troubleshooting issues and providing day‑to‑day CAD support
• Develop and provide CAD training to Engineering personnel to promote consistent and effective use of company CAD systems
• Maintain CAD documentation and resources to support consistency across Engineering projects
• Collaborate with Mechanical Desing Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Manufacturing, and other cross‑functional teams to support product development and engineering changes
• Support new product development and sustaining engineering activities by providing timely CAD and documentation assistance
• Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to CAD processes, engineering documentation, design standards, and workflow efficiency
• Perform other duties and technical projects as assigned

Qualifications:

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, CAD Technology, or related technical field preferred
• 3+ years of professional CAD drafting, design, or engineering support experience preferred
• Strong proficiency with 2D drafting and 3D parametric CAD modeling
• Experience with PTC Creo or similar professional CAD software strongly preferred
• Experience creating and modifying engineering drawings, assemblies, and CAD models within a product development or manufacturing environment
• Working knowledge of engineering drawing standards, dimensioning tolerancing, and manufacturing documentation
• Experience with cable and harness routing and PCB interface documentation preferred
• Previous CAD administration experience, including software licensing, standards, templates, libraries, and user support, strongly preferred
• Ability to review and check engineering drawings and CAD models for accuracy, quality, and adherence to established standards
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with the ability to support CAD users and resolve technical issues
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to train and support users at carrying levels of CAD experience
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Engineering and cross‑functional teams
• Self‑motivated with a continuous improvement mindset and the ability to manage multiple priorities
