Job summary

Sherman + Reilly, a Chattanooga-based manufacturer of pullers and related equipment, seeks a SolidWorks and PDM administrator to join our engineering team onsite. You will own CAD/PDM standards, manage vaults, workflows, and licenses, and help ensure accurate BOMs and data structures.

The role requires 5+ years in SolidWorks administration in a production setting, a degree in Engineering or related field, and PowerShell scripting or similar tools for automation.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, IT, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on SolidWorks administration and support in a production engineering setting.
  • Demonstrated SolidWorks PDM administration experience including vault configuration, workflows, permissions, and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of engineering-grade workstation hardware, GPU and driver management, and Windows performance optimization.
  • Experience supporting BOM processes and understanding engineering data structures.
  • Strong root-cause troubleshooting skills across software, hardware, and integration layers.
  • Excellent documentation and communication abilities; comfortable training non-technical engineers.
  • Preferred: experience connecting CAD/PDM data to ERP/PLM platforms such as SAP.
  • Preferred: SolidWorks CSWP/CSWE or PDM administration certifications.
  • Preferred: PowerShell or scripting for automation and configuration management.
  • Preferred: familiarity with manufacturing environments (wire, cable, heavy equipment).
  • Preferred: exposure to FEA/simulation workloads and workstation tuning.
  • Preferred: experience with endpoint management tools like Intune or Autopilot, Active Directory, and security systems.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for SolidWorks, eDrawings, and SolidWorks PDM; final escalation point for CAD and PDM issues.
  • Advise engineering and IT leadership on standards, strategy, and tooling.
  • Administer SolidWorks and add-ins across the engineering fleet, including deployments, upgrades, service packs, settings, and templates.
  • Validate changes in a test environment before production release.
  • Manage the SolidWorks PDM vault, including permissions, workflows, revision/lifecycle rules, data cards, backups, and replication.
  • Design release processes with Document Control; onboard new users and maintain vault health.
  • Configure and tune engineering workstations for CAD, large-assembly, and FEA workloads.
  • Maintain certified GPU driver, BIOS, and firmware standards; build repeatable deployment images.
  • Establish performance baselines; monitor stability and crash data; perform root-cause analysis; plan capacity and hardware refresh cycles.
  • Support BOM processes and CAD/PDM-to-ERP integrations; improve part numbering, metadata, and BOM structure.
  • Automate repetitive tasks via scripting and APIs; track SolidWorks licenses and third-party licenses for allocation, renewals, and audit readiness.
  • Create and maintain clear work instructions and standards for the team.
  • Support other engineering software and hardware, including third-party apps and 3D printers.
