Job summary

CommScope is seeking a CAD Designer in Apex, North Carolina to develop and maintain accurate 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for telecom outside plant. The role collaborates with engineering, design, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet specifications and manufacturability requirements.

The ideal candidate will have Creo proficiency, experience in 3D modeling, and a background in engineering drawings. Familiarity with SAP-based PLM systems and revision control is a plus.

The CAD Designer for Telecom Outside Plant (OSP) New Product Development supports the development of next-generation telecom products by transforming conceptual ideas into detailed engineering designs. The role works closely with laboratory engineers and cross-functional teams to incorporate Telcordia Generic Requirements (GR) and internal standards into quality product designs.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain accurate 2D drawings and 3D CAD models.
• Update and revise designs based on engineering changes and feedback.
• Ensure designs meet specifications, standards, and manufacturability requirements.
• Collaborate with engineering, design, and manufacturing teams.
• Organize and manage CAD files and related documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Basic understanding of engineering principles and materials.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in an engineering-related field.
• Experience in product development or manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with SAP-based PLM systems and revision control processes.

Desired Technical Profile

The ideal candidate:

• Possesses strong 3D modeling skills in Creo.
• Has expertise in molded plastic part design.
• Can convert complex requirements into actionable engineering plans and detailed 3D models.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to work in laboratory and engineering environments around equipment and test chambers.
• Occasional lifting of 30 to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, bend, and work in environmental or ESD-controlled areas.
• Use of PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
• Occasional off-shift support for testing or prototype builds.
