Job summary

JobTailor in Houston seeks a CAD Designer to generate precise drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor. You will ensure designs meet standards, validate fit-up, and work with engineers to keep projects on schedule. Strong drafting skills and GD&T knowledge are required.

The role requires a technical associate degree and 2+ years of AutoCAD experience, with a preference for crane, rigging, and fabrication detailing expertise.

Qualifications

• Technical institute or associate’s degree in a related scientific or engineering field.
• 2+ years of experience using Autodesk AutoCAD to generate structural, crane and rigging, or machinery drawings.
• Proficient with AutoCAD and ability to prepare high-quality, technically accurate drawings.
• Experience generating crane and hoist lift plans and layouts, climbing schedules, foundation plans, and tie-off details preferred but not required.
• Experience generating fabrication detail drawings, including knowledge of welding details, GD&T, and fit tolerances, preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, and familiarity with construction standards and terminology preferred.
• Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with engineers, designers, and other internal personnel.
• Experience with Autodesk Vault preferred.
• Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute work on multiple projects within schedules.
• Basic knowledge of QA programs related to design and tasks.
• Knowledge of engineering fundamentals and fabrication/machine shop practices preferred.
• Versatility and willingness to work under changing circumstances with enthusiasm.
• Experience using Autodesk Inventor, not required but desirable.

Responsibilities

• Generate accurate drawings and details from verbal/written direction, field data, or customer drawings to communicate design intent and minimize errors.
• Create drawings in accordance with CAD standards and templates.
• Validate equipment fit-up and check for interferences with Bigge equipment.
• Interface with engineers and designers to meet job requirements, schedules, and man-hour budgets.
• Manage project technical documentation and records, including drawings, logs, and BOM, as directed by the Engineering Manager.
• Maintain knowledge of relevant industry standards and practices.
• Maintain proficiency in software and seek ways to improve accuracy and efficiency.
