Job description

About the Positions

We’re seeking CAD Drafters at various levels to support large, heavy‑civil infrastructure programs—including highways, roads, bridges, transit (including rail and bus), and airport projects delivered through both traditional and alternative methods. Your primary focus will be developing accurate and coordinated drawings and models to support the design, permitting, and construction of complex infrastructure projects. You will also be responsible for incorporating redlines from engineers and designers, maintaining drawing sets through multiple revisions, and ensuring conformance with applicable standards, specifications, and project requirements.

This posting is for future roles and not for a specific opportunity that is available right now. We accept applications and conduct interviews in advance of upcoming hiring needs. When a candidate is selected, their profile is activated in our talent pool for this specialty area. We notify our talent pool candidates first whenever we have a project need. This posting targets Sacramento, CA.

Responsibilities

may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create accurate 2D and 3D drawings and models for civil infrastructure projects using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar CAD tools.
  • Interpret redlines, sketches, field data, and design markups to produce coordinated drawing sets and technical deliverables.
  • Develop plan views, profiles, cross sections, and other drawing types to support design, permitting, and construction documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to ensure drawings reflect project requirements and design intent.
  • Incorporate revisions, track changes, and maintain version control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Apply agency standards, CAD layering conventions, and file‑naming protocols consistently across all deliverables.
  • Assist in preparing drawing packages for submittals, permits, and construction.
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines (civil, structural, MEP, etc.) to identify and resolve drawing or design issues.
  • Support quality control efforts by reviewing drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards.
Attributes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent multitasking and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high‑quality drawings.
  • Collaborative mindset that fosters teamwork, trust, and positive relationships.
  • Natural curiosity, problem‑solving abilities, and a passion for continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
  • AAS degree in computer‑aided drafting or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in CAD Drafting for heavy civil construction or engineering projects, preferably in transit or public infrastructure.
  • Understanding of civil engineering concepts and construction documentation standards, including familiarity with site development, grading, drainage, and utility design.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, topographic surveys, and construction and technical specifications.
  • Understanding of file management, version control, and CAD standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (preferably 2023 or above), Civil 3D, or MicroStation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or civil engineering.
  • Experience with large (>$500M), complex, heavy‑civil infrastructure projects that include highways, roads, bridges, transit (including rail and bus), and/or airport projects.
  • Experience delivering projects through both traditional and alternative methods (e.g., DB, CM/GC, P3).
  • Experience in similar roles supporting owners.
  • Knowledge of local and state design standards (e.g., DOT standards, stormwater regulations, etc.).
