Job summary

Job description

The position is responsible for working with sales to provide engineering support on designs and estimates. This position will also work side by side with production to ensure that drawings can be easily understood and that projects can be fabricated from the prints.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Develop customer relationships necessary to drive and increase sales.

• Consult with sales to analyze customer needs and requirements
• Design products that meet and exceed customer needs using AutoCAD and SolidWorks software
• Products such as: racks, immersion coils, anode baskets, and miscellaneous fabrications
• Estimate products using standard material and labor costs using Excel software
• Provide sales and production with detailed drawings to include fully dimensioned drawings, bill of materials and special notes, and instructions
• Maintain log detailing drawing numbers, product description, and dates using Excel software
• Coordinate with production for most efficient use of material and labor
• Solicit outside vendors for non-inventoried materials and outside labor
• Communicate with customers about design issues through e-mail, phone, and in-person meetings to include traveling to customer location
• Participate in meetings to review all aspects of non-standard and “special” jobs
• Inspect products to ensure they are made to required specifications
• Fabricate and test prototypes
• Advise production and sales on fabricating methods for specific jobs
• Advancing knowledge of the surface finishing industry through in-house and at-home study courses

Skills/Qualifications:

• Proficient with 2D AutoCAD software
• Proficient with 3D SolidWorks software
• Knowledge of industrial drafting standards
• Excellent communicator with the ability to effectively translate technical data to non-technical people
• Ability to problem solve and meet tight deadlines
• Proficient computer software skills and ability to work with an ERP system

Education & Experience Required:

• High school level math and English skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
• Metal fabrication knowledge a plus
• Surface finishing knowledge a plus
• Experience in the metal / surface finishing industry a plus
