Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a CAD Designer I to join our team in a startup-oriented environment, developing leading-edge hardware for satellites and aerospace systems.

You will create models and drawings, ensure documentation complies with program requirements, and manage CAD data with SolidWorks and PDM. A technical degree and CAD experience are required, with emphasis on accuracy and collaboration across engineering functions.

Qualifications

  • Associates or technical degree in CAD or engineering field.
  • Minimum 1 year of CAD experience.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Experience generating/modifying product models, drawings, and documentation.
  • Ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, and product specifications.
  • Comfortable with MS Teams, Confluence, and Jira.
  • Ability to work well under deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • An eye for detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

We are looking to add a CAD Designer I to our team. If you are great at what you do, enjoy working in a startup environment, and are passionate about developing leading-edge hardware for satellites, spacecraft, and aerospace systems, we would like to hear from you.

In this role, you will be responsible for a wide range of CAD design assignments in support of the mechanical engineering team including the creation of models and/or drawings from CAD, sketches, notes, and other documentation provided by engineering staff. You will ensure that design documentation complies with the program requirements, organizational processes and industry standards, and will prepare accurate drawings with proper tolerances, dimensions, and instructions.

As a small company, the Cesium team "wears many hats." Candidates should be comfortable with a varied workflow that may involve multitasking between library management, CAD design, review, and other related tasks.

Job Requirements And Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates or Technical degree in Computer Aided Design or Engineering related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Computer Aided Design.
  • Proficiency in using SolidWorks.
  • Experience generating and/or modifying product models, drawings, and documentation.
  • Ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, and product specifications.
  • Comfortable with collaboration tools such as MS Teams, Confluence, and Jira.
  • Ability to work well under deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • An eye for detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Strong mechanical proficiency and general understanding of manufacturing (CNC, 3D printing, etc.) and mechanical assembly techniques.
  • Knowledge of applicable government and industry standards including ASME Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and ASME Y14.100 (Engineering Drawing Practices), and its application techniques.
  • Previous experience in supporting the design of electronic packages, ground structures, mechanisms, and/or composite structures.
  • Aerospace or automotive electronics design experience.

$26 - $30.70 an hour
