Job summary

Specialized Fire & Security, Inc. in Orlando, FL is seeking an experienced fire alarm designer with Siemens equipment expertise.

Your work translates contract documents into accurate shop drawings and supporting documentation used by field crews and customers daily. Based in our Orlando office, you will plan and produce shop drawings, review specifications, and use AutoCAD automation to improve speed and consistency.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of AutoCAD experience creating fire alarm or life-safety shop drawings.
  • 3+ years of practical experience with fire alarm and life-safety electronics.
  • Working knowledge of Siemens fire alarm equipment.
  • NICET Level II or higher in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret contract drawings, specifications, codes, and equipment data and installation sheets.
  • Solid understanding of electricity and electronics, including circuits, power supplies, and battery calculations.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong computer and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments independently.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Preferred: experience as a fire alarm field technician and familiarity with NFPA 72 and the Florida Fire Prevention Code.
  • Preferred: experience with large-scale or networked Siemens systems and related equipment.
  • Preferred: Bluebeam Revu experience for markups and submittal review.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and produce shop drawings, including floorplans, riser diagrams, and control equipment and panel diagrams that align with the project scope.
  • Review contract drawings, specifications, and equipment data sheets to ensure each submittal reflects what was sold and what the code requires.
  • Use AutoCAD automation tools such as LISP, scripts, blocks, and templates to improve output speed and drawing consistency.
  • Prepare collateral documentation for field staff, including device schedules, wiring details, sequence of operations, and installation references.
  • Record labor hours by project in our accounting software.
  • Participate in periodic site visits, meetings, and surveys.
  • Remain available for overtime when project deadlines require it.
