Job summary

Big C Lumber in Dowagiac, MI is seeking a Components Estimator for a full-time, day‑shift role with benefits. The primary duty is estimating structural building materials using CAD-based software, and providing technical assistance for all Big C offerings.

You will work with builders, salespersons, vendors, designers, and management to ensure accurate material quantities and timely project starts. You will build strong relationships, observe safety guidelines, and stay current with local codes

• Experience in basic design or construction framing practices.
• Strong aptitude for a high‑pressure, customer‑focused culture.
• Well-developed problem solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent planning and organization skills.
• High initiative and motivation.
• Knowledge of roof truss design and application.
• General knowledge of IRC.
• Ability to use conversion tables and measurement scales.
• Ability to meet deadlines with accuracy.
• Detail oriented.
• Ability to research information online and offline.
• Ability to adapt to in‑house software.
• Ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Estimate structural building materials using CAD based software.
• Provide technical assistance for Big C offers.
• Build and maintain relations with builders, salespersons, vendors, designers, and management.
• Observe company mission, values and safety programs.
• Promote safety in all areas of influence.
• Quote Roof, Floor, and Wall materials from prints.
• Estimate project costs before design handoff.
• Provide basic layouts for sales staff showing material usage.
• Keep knowledge of regional code requirements and officials.
• Use Microsoft and database software to track services.
• Communicate clearly with employees, management, customers and suppliers.
• Complete special assignments as required by the Design Manager.
