Job summary

Aerotek's Chantilly, VA location is hiring a Cable Technician for a Contract to Hire role. The position pays $22.00–$27.00 per hour and is fully onsite. Expect responsibilities including installing outlets, pulling and routing cables, and creating organized terminations.

  • Route cables through modular furniture.
  • Perform pre-termination procedures, including organizing, dressing, and labeling cables.
  • Suspend and support cables using cable trays, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, or trapeze.
  • Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optics, and hardware.
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cables as required.
  • Terminate low-voltage devices.
  • Follow blueprints accurately.
  • Complete all paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, and tool transfers.

Job description

Job Title: Cable Technician

The Technician I is expected to develop and possess the skills necessary to be an effective member of a technical team. Typically, this role requires one year of experience in the structured cabling industry.

Responsibilities
  • Install work area outlets for floors, modular furniture, and walls.
  • Drop cables down walls using fish tape or other methods.
  • Route cables through modular furniture.
  • Perform pre-termination procedures, including organizing, dressing, and labeling cables.
  • Suspend and support cables using cable trays, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, or trapeze.
  • Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optics, and hardware.
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cables as required.
  • Perform fire-stopping procedures on firewalls, install sleeves, and pull cables through sleeves and core penetrations.
  • Terminate low-voltage devices.
  • Follow blueprints accurately.
  • Complete all paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, and tool transfers.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in construction and cabling.
  • Proficiency in cable pulling and terminating.
  • Ability to pull fiber and terminate low-voltage devices.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Knowledge of Cat 5, Cat 6, and fiber optic cabling.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Minimum of zero to one year of experience in electrical work.
  • Mechanical/electrical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Basic knowledge of the construction industry is preferred.

Work Environment

The primary work site is in Manassas, VA, with the need for flexibility to adjust to other projects in Northern Virginia. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 5 AM to 3:30 PM, with an extended schedule from 5 AM to 5:30 PM and work required on Saturdays as needed.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr.
