Job summary

Comporium is seeking a self-motivated locate technician to manage underground locate requests in Fort Mill, SC. You will accurately locate buried facilities within a 3-day window using maps, records, and locator equipment.

You will work as a team, photograph locate marks, interact with excavation contractors, and help protect our network while maintaining equipment and meeting deadlines.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Must possess valid driver's license.
• Willing to complete Comporium training and SC 811 Academy within 6 months.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. and perform outdoor work.
• Subject to after-hours and emergency locate call-outs.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground facilities (telephone, coax, and fiber) using locator equipment, maps, and records.
• Provide photos and videos of locate marks for each locate ticket.
• Lead a locator area and coordinate with teammates to protect our facilities.
• Manage electronic requests and meet 3-day deadlines for locates.
• Communicate with excavation contractors to define scope and minimize damage.
• Build relationships with other utilities and construction firms.
• Maintain tools and equipment to minimize downtime.
• Assist with damage investigations and restitution as needed.

SUMMARY

Self motivated Individual able to manage locate caseload of underground cable locate requests received through PUPS and other electronic providers, accurately locating all buried facilities with a 3 day window from the date of the request In addition, all emergency locates must be completed upon request with an immediate response. Strong team mindset. Assist Supervisor with any assignments to protect our buried network.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Working as a team member to accurately locate underground facilities - telephone, coax, and fiber - utilizing a laptop, mapping software, cable records, smart phones, cable locators, etc. Must provide photos and videos of all locate marks for each locate ticket completed. Will take the lead in an area working cohesively with other locators to protect our facilities.
• Accurately navigate and manage the electronic database into which locate requests are received, prioritizing and completing all locates within the 3 day deadline and closing them out. Willing to assist in any area of the enterprise that assistance is needed to perform locate duties.
• Communicate/interact with excavation contractors to fully understand the parameters of excavation scope and timeline to minimize damage to underground facilities. Maintain positive relationship excavators.
• Work with other utility companies and construction companies on a daily basis building solid relationships for better communication and interaction.
• Through expert knowledge and superior preventative maintenance activities, maintain all equipment to minimize downtime and extend the serviceable life of all equipment.
• Perform spot digging to ensure accuracy of questionable locates engaging assistance if needed to ensure protection of our facilities.
• Assist as needed during damage investigation and restitution recovery efforts. Assist Supervisor with special assignments to protect our network.

REQUIREMENTS

• High School/GED Equivalent required
• Related work experience or knowledge of the industry desired but not necessary.
• Basic computer skills, strong work ethic, attention to detail, interpersonal skills
• Must possess valid driver's license. Complete the Comporium technical training locating module and the SC 811 Academy online course within 6 months.
• Yellow Belt certification
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs., climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, work outdoors, work in confined spaces
• Subject to after hours and emergency locate call outs and scheduled duty rotation.
