Job summary

SAIC is seeking a Cable Fabrication Technician II for our North Charleston, SC customer site. You will assemble cables and harnesses to specifications, read and interpret drawings, schematics, and cable run sheets, and perform tests to verify builds.

The role requires the ability to work with MIL-SPEC connectors, maintain hand tools, and pursue IPC/WHMA-A-620 Specialist Certification. This position emphasizes safe, quality-driven production in a warehouse and production environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or formal electronics training with two years' experience.
  • Four years' experience with a high school diploma.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and cable run sheets to verify correct build of cables.
  • Assemble cables and harnesses to specifications including MIL-SPEC connectors, back-shells, RF cables, CAT5/6 and power/ground cables.
  • Perform continuity and insulation resistance testing per work instructions and customer requirements.
  • Maintain crimp tools, heat guns, and other hand tools per industry standards.
  • Work independently or as part of a team to meet production schedules and customer delivery requirements.

Description

SAIC is seeking an Cable Fabrication Technician II for our North Charleston, SC customer site.

Job Duties:
  • Perform cable fabrication work for multiple government projects
  • Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and cable run sheets to verify correct build of cables
  • Assemble cables and harnesses to specifications using cable run sheets and/or schematics, including but limited to multi-pin connectors, MIL-SPEC cylindrical connectors, back-shells, RF cables, CAT5/6 cables, and power/ground cables
  • Perform continuity, insulation resistance, and basic electrical testing in accordance with work instructions and customer requirements
  • Utilize and maintain crimp tools, heat guns, and various electrical and mechanical hand tools in accordance with industry standards and best practices
  • Able to obtain and maintain IPC/WHMA-A-620 Specialist Certification
  • Work independently and as part of a team to meet production schedules and customer delivery requirements
  • Perform work in compliance with applicable workmanship standards and quality requirements
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
  • AssociateDegreeinEngineeringTechnology,orformalelectronicstrainingfrom:Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications

or

  • High school diploma

and

  • Two (2) years practical experience to include: Laboratory testing, Manufacturing, or Maintenance or four (4) with a high school diploma
Clearance Requirements:
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Common Access Card (CAC) to access government facilities, systems and meet customer requirements
Required Skills:
  • Must be able to safely perform all physical demands of the job in a warehouse and production environment, including lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying up to 25 pounds unassisted on a regular basis
  • Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, sit, stand, and squat for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to repeatedly manipulate and handle materials and components required for cable fabrication, including reaching, grasping, twisting, turning, and operating hand tools and fabrication equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior cable fabrication experience in a government, defense, aerospace, or manufacturing environment
  • Current or previous IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification preferred
  • Experience working with MIL-SPEC connectors and military technical drawings
  • Familiarity with continuity testing equipment, multimeters, megohmmeters, or cable test equipment
  • Experience with fiber optic cable fabrication and testing preferred
  • Ability to work from engineering drawings, bills of material, and wiring diagrams with minimal supervision
