Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field; foundational engineering knowledge essential for interpreting specs, cable constructions, and feasibility assessments.
  • 2–4 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment with exposure to technical problem-solving, process understanding, or product-related decision-making.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills; ability to evaluate specs, determine compliance, and document conclusions clearly.
  • Effective communication across all levels; comfortable interacting with operators, engineers, product managers, and leadership to gather information and make informed decisions.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and collaborate to resolve gray-area decisions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools – Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access; ERP or database experience preferred for managing specs and documentation.

  • Product Design & Execution – transform technical requirements into manufacturable cable designs balancing performance, cost, and compliance.
  • Cost & Commercial Support – assist with cost estimation and commercial aspects of design.

Overview

Prysmian is seeking a technically strong, detail-oriented engineer with a passion for collaboration and continuous improvement to join our Specialties, Industrial & Construction design team.

Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager, this role is at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, and customer engagement. You will transform technical requirements into manufacturable cable designs—balancing performance, cost, and compliance—while helping drive innovation across our product portfolio.

This is not just a design role. It is a business-connected engineering position that influences product capability, plant efficiency, and customer success.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field – or equivalent experience; foundational engineering knowledge is essential for interpreting specifications, understanding cable constructions, and supporting feasibility assessments.

  • 2—4 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment – with exposure to technical problem‑solving, process understanding, or product‑related decision‑making.

  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and technical writing skills – ability to evaluate multiple specifications, determine compliance, and document conclusions clearly.

  • Effective communication skills across all levels – comfortable interacting with operators, engineers, product managers, and leadership to gather information and make informed decisions.

  • Self‑starter with the ability to work independently – able to proactively reach out to others, ask questions, and collaborate to resolve gray‑area decisions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools – Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access; experience with ERP or database systems preferred for managing specifications and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Programming knowledge – helpful for working with the back end of design systems; Java experience is beneficial for system programming tasks.

  • Experience interpreting complex specifications – ability to analyze multiple industry, customer, and internal specs, determine the most stringent requirements, and assess compliance (Specification Engineering experience).

  • Experience resolving specification‑related issues – such as evaluating whether a cable with deviations can still meet industry standards or customer requirements.

  • Leadership interest or experience – potential to grow into leadership roles; ability to influence decisions and collaborate across functions.

  • Experience in a specification engineering role – or similar background involving detailed technical documentation, feasibility assessments, and cross‑functional coordination.

Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Works out of a normal office environment with standard office equipment available.

  • Will be required to sit, bend, kneel, squat, use keyboard, read, write, and speak fluently.

  • Employee will regularly be required to lift and carry objects of 10-25 pounds as needed.

  • Employee will occasionally be required to lift and carry objects of 25-30 pounds as needed.

  • Employee will be required to work productively and cooperatively in a high-volume, fast paced, highly pressured environment and be able to respond efficiently and courteously to unanticipated problems and crisis.

  • This role is not typically exposed to adverse environmental conditions, except excessive eye strain and possible lifting injuries.

  • When travel is necessary, will be exposed to typical travel environment and surroundings.
