Job summary

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated is seeking an Assembly Technician to fabricate and assemble wire and cable connectors for molding, performing soldering and inspection to meet specifications.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of electro-mechanical assembly experience, strong soldering skills, and the ability to read detailed drawings. This on-site role requires overtime availability and may lead to temporary agency placement before permanent hire.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School diploma/GED.
  • 5 years electro-mechanical assembly experience in a manufacturing environment including reading and interpretation of detailed electronic drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Prior hand soldering experience; wire and cable soldering highly preferred.
  • Current or prior J-STD 001 and IPC 620 certification preferred.
  • Willing to cross-train in all assemblies.
  • Good work ethic and reliability; punctual.
  • Overtime availability Monday through Saturday when required.
  • U.S. Person status for ITAR controlled data.

Responsibilities

  • Performs fine hand soldering using a soldering iron and magnifying glass.
  • Follows detailed production drawings, sample assemblies and verbal instructions under general supervision.
  • Understands and applies established workmanship practices to all facets of mechanical assembly.
  • Interprets drawings, work instructions and BOMs to identify parts and steps.
  • Assembles components with hand tools and soldering equipment.
  • Inspects parts for quality and performs basic testing during assembly.
  • Adjusts materials to meet electrical or dimensional specs.
  • Follows safety procedures and wears PPE; handles hazardous chemicals per OSHA.

Position Overview

The Assembly Technician position prepares and hand solders wire and cable connectors, splices, sockets, for the molding process per defined policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs fine hand soldering using a soldering iron and magnifying glass.
  • Follows detailed production drawings, sample assemblies and verbal instructions under general supervision.
  • Understands and applies established acceptable workmanship practices to all facets of mechanical assembly.
  • Interprets and works from drawings, work instructions and bills of material to understand the required parts and steps needed to complete the assigned assembly.
  • Works on assembled components, requiring manual dexterity and the ability to work with simple hand tools and soldering equipment.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools to perform skilled fitting and assembly work.
  • Inspects parts for quality and performs basic testing throughout the assembly process.
  • Adjusts or trims materials from components to achieve specified electrical or dimensional characteristics.
  • Follows safety procedures and wears required PPE in the work area.
  • Practices safe handling of flammable and hazardous chemicals required to meet all OSHA regulations and cleanliness specifications.
Requirements
  • Minimum High School diploma/GED
  • 5 years electro-mechanical assembly experience in a manufacturing environment including the reading and interpretation of detailed electronic drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Must have prior hand soldering experience, wire and cable soldering highly preferred.
  • Current or prior J-STD 001 and IPC 620 certification preferred.
  • Must be willing to receive and provide cross training in all assemblies.
  • Good work ethic and reliability; consistently at work and on time.
  • Availability for overtime Monday through Saturday when required.
  • Candidate must possess "U.S. Person" status for access to ITAR controlled technical data.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language at a level that allows for the comprehension of detailed work and safety instructions and the legible completion of paperwork and communication with co-workers and management.
  • Must have good vision (corrected vision is acceptable) to perform visual inspection of product quality and to identify defects.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors.
  • Must possess good manual dexterity to effectively use basic hand tools and equipment.
  • Experienced with some power tools (power drills, sanders, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of mechanical hardware (nuts, bolts, screws, etc.) assembly.
  • Solid understanding of blueprints, Bill of Materials and mechanical drawings, Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Exhibits mechanical aptitude.
  • Must have basic computer skills and ability to learn how to use ERP system for job tracking.
  • Requires ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.
  • Understanding of 5S and Lean Manufacturing practices is a plus.

Target Pay Rate: $18.00 - $27.00 DOE
