Job summary

Heilind Electronics seeks an entry-level assembler to build and wire cable harnesses following work instructions, drawings, and routers. You will cut, crimp, solder, and attach wires to connectors, checking wiring with basic test tools to ensure proper assemblies.

The role emphasizes safety, adherence to IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards, and ongoing skill development through on-the-job training and process improvement. Prior solder or cable assembly experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or state-approved equivalency credential.
• Prior experience in cable assembly preferred.
• Prior solder, fiber optic assembly, wire marking, and electrical testing processes preferred.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret work orders, routers, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings to determine procedures and requirements.
• Route, wrap, lace, ties, and secure wires and cables per drawings and customer specifications.
• Perform crimping, soldering, staking, torquing, press-fitting, bonding, and related mechanical and electrical assembly operations.
• Attach ends of wires to components, plugs, or terminal strips.
• Test wiring continuity with continuity tester and use cable testing equipment to troubleshoot problems.
• Mark and label completed assemblies per work instructions and customer requirements.
• Install backshells, strain reliefs, shielding, heat shrink, braiding, and over-molding components as required.
• Work safely with small tools and comply with TREK Quality Management System.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties as assigned.

• Reads and interprets work orders, routers, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings to determine assembly procedures and requirements.
• Routes, wraps, laces, ties, and secures wires and cables per drawings and customer specifications.
• Performs crimping, soldering, staking, torquing, press-fitting, bonding, and related mechanical and electrical assembly operations.
• Attaches ends of wires to components, plugs, or terminal strip.
• Tests wiring continuity with continuity tester.
• Uses cable testing equipment to troubleshoot problems.
• Marks and labels completed assemblies in accordance with work instructions and customer requirements.
• Installs backshells, strain reliefs, shielding, heat shrink, braiding, and over-molding components as required.
• Works safely with small tools such as knives, cutters, screwdrivers, wrenches, and wire strippers.
• Complies with all applicable elements of the TREK Quality Management System.
• Pursues continuous improvement through training and process improvement.
• Assembles cable harnesses and subassemblies to IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards.

Education/Experience

• High school diploma or state-approved high school equivalency credential.
• Prior experience in cable assembly preferred.
• Prior solder, fiber optic assembly, wire marking, and electrical testing processes preferred.

Skills And Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as routers, blueprints, drawings, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to perform basic math: Add, subtract, multiply and divide.
• Understanding of both Imperial and Metric systems and the ability to convert from one to another.
• Ability to use measuring devices and crimp tools.
• Ability to identify non-conforming products and take corrective action.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to workmanship standards.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to complete simple first piece builds.

Physical Requirements

• While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.
• The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
• The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close visual acuity to perform activities such as: inspecting manufactured parts (with and without magnification), preparing/analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and ability to distinguish colors and color variation of physical parts and components, and in documentation such as work instructions and engineering drawings.

Working Conditions

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
• The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
