Airbus Americas, Inc. is seeking a Cabin Design Engineer I (Contract) to support the development, customization, and evolution of cabin interiors for airline customers in Mobile, Alabama.

You will perform design, analysis, and data integration from concept to installation under guidance, contributing to ongoing product improvements and certifications. The role requires a BS in Engineering and up to 3 years of cabin design experience, with strong CAD skills (Catia V5) and proficiency in MS

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering (Aero, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical)
  • 0 to 3 years total experience in design/analysis with cabin and cargo and/or system installation projects.
  • Candidates must have strong proficiency using Google G Suite.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and be proactive working with teams.
  • Demonstrate flexibility regarding the changing working environment.
  • Must have the ability to write reports, specifications, work statements, requirements and other technical documents.
  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Detailed-oriented with excellent proof‑reading and writing skills
  • Effective communication skills in English
  • Must be able to present information and answer questions related to produced documentation.
  • Provides a clear communication link between vendors and the engineering team.
  • Communicate frequently with other departments internally, externally and internationally.
  • CAD experience is essential with Catia V5. Strong capability in MS Office/Google Products. Ability to learn new tool sets as required.

Responsibilities

  • Design Integration & Maturation: assist in design solution development and 3D modeling under guidance.
  • Configuration & Part Number Steering: support PN and BOM management within PLM tools.
  • Compliance & Certification Review: assist in reviewing engineering compliance documents for airworthiness approval.
  • Product Evolution & Change Control: draft and coordinate routine engineering change packages (MODs).
  • Supplier Technical Coordination: review and integrate supplier drawings and 3D models.
  • FAL & Manufacturing Support: troubleshoot issues on the shop floor and with manufacturing engineering.
  • Project & Deliverable Management: track supplier progress and engineering documents.
  • Technical Documentation & Customization: prepare and modify technical documents and airline specifications.
  • Communication: participate in cross-functional discussions and provide status updates.
  • Continuous Improvement: explore Gemini ecosystem tools to enhance workflows.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Job Description

The Cabin Design Engineer I (Contract) supports the development, customization, and continuous evolution of aircraft cabin and cargo interiors/payloads for airline customers. Working under general direction at an intermediate to advanced professional level, the engineer autonomously performs routine to moderate levels of engineering design, analysis, and data integration from initial conceptual phase to final product installation.

Your working environment

The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers who assist in the design and development of Airbus commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades, reconfigurations and services of all product types across the globe.

Your challenge
  • Design Integration & Maturation: Assist in design solution development, layout maturation, and spatial integration using 3D modeling software. Under guidance, support detail part integration, clearance/clash analysis, and basic trade study evaluations.
  • Configuration & Part Number Steering: Support the management of part numbers (PNs) and Bill of Materials (BOM) within PLM tools. Help track technical effectivity, interchangeability, and configuration across product variants under the direction of senior team members.
  • Compliance & Certification Review: Assist in reviewing and evaluating engineering compliance documents from suppliers to support airworthiness approval. Work with senior engineers to check Certification Plans, Test Plans, Test Reports, and Declarations of Design and Performance (DDP) for basic technical accuracy and alignment with program requirements.
  • Product Evolution & Change Control: Contribute to the drafting and coordination of routine engineering change packages (Modifications/MODs) while developing problem-solving skills.
  • Supplier Technical Coordination: Support technical collaboration with cabin interior suppliers. Assist in reviewing, evaluating, and integrating supplier‑provided drawings, interface documents, and 3D DMU models.
  • FAL & Manufacturing Support: Help troubleshoot physical and systems integration issues discovered on the shop floor or at the Final Assembly Line (FAL). Support Manufacturing Engineering in resolving routine installation non‑conformances.
  • Project & Deliverable Management: Participate in project execution by managing personal task commitments. Assist in tracking supplier progress to help ensure the timely delivery of engineering documents, such as test plans, test reports, and certification data.
  • Technical Documentation & Customization: Support the preparation and modification of technical documents and customized airline specifications. Assist in preparing technical presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communication: Participate in cross‑functional communication by attending technical integration discussions, assisting with proposed solutions, and helping provide status updates to internal departments (Stress, Procurement, Quality) and external partners.
  • Continuous Improvement: Eagerness to explore and utilize Google Gemini ecosystem tools (Gemini web app, Workspace integrations) to enhance daily research, drafting, and problem‑solving workflows.
  • Other responsibilities and ad‑hoc engineering support as assigned.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities
  • Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with Airbus cabin and cargo engineering
  • French, German, or Spanish skills a plus
  • Internship in aerospace engineering

Physical Requirements
  • Onsite or remote: Minimum 80% onsite and 20% remote.
  • Vision: Daily able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens; able to read documents, reports, and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: Daily able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone, and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: Daily able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information, and participate in communications.
  • Daily Equipment Operation: Able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and electronic identification card for building entry).
  • Carrying: Daily able to carry documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment up to 10 lbs.
  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: Daily able to sit for long periods of time in meetings or working on a computer ; stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor ; and walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site. Steel‑toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits; appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
