Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) in Portland, OR is seeking an experienced engineer to develop cabin floor components and assemblies for strategic projects, lead designs optimized for cost and manufacturability, and collaborate with design, manufacturing, and supplier partners.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive quality improvements, and ensure designs meet specifications, safety, and government regulations while supporting cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical preferred).
  • 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with CAD software and CAD design of structures/complex assemblies.
  • Understanding of vehicle design principles and safety practices.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; not visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop cabin floor components and assemblies for strategic projects.
  • Drive quality improvements supporting customer needs.
  • Collaborate with internal design and manufacturing teams and external supplier partners.
  • Support exterior lighting, camera integration, or mirror development as needed.
  • Lead development of cab structure designs optimized for application, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Right-size the product portfolio based on market needs and complexity management.
  • Develop and release product improvements to reduce costs.
  • Mentor and teach other engineers.
  • Develop vehicle components and systems using engineering and CAD principles.
  • Create reliable, serviceable, energy-efficient, and competitive designs.
  • Develop engineered solutions across the design lifecycle.
  • Interface with multi-tier suppliers and Vehicle Engineering, Validation, Analysis, Compliance, Manufacturing, Sales, and Marketing teams.
  • Ensure designs conform to specifications, customer expectations, engineering practices, and government regulations.

Job description

  • Develop cabin floor components and assemblies for strategic project initiatives
  • Drive quality improvements supporting customer needs
  • Collaborate with internal design and manufacturing teams and external supplier partners
  • Support exterior lighting, camera integration, or mirror development as needed
  • Lead development of cab structure designs optimized for application, cost, and manufacturability
  • Right-size the product portfolio based on market needs and complexity management
  • Develop and release product improvements to reduce costs
  • Mentor and teach other engineers
  • Develop vehicle components and systems using engineering and CAD principles
  • Create reliable, serviceable, energy-efficient, and competitive designs
  • Develop engineered solutions across the design lifecycle
  • Support manufacturing plants, quality assurance, and the service department
  • Develop, document, maintain, and update specifications and concepts for future vehicle projects
  • Interface with multi-tier suppliers and Vehicle Engineering, Validation, Analysis, Compliance, Manufacturing, Sales, and Marketing teams
  • Ensure designs conform to specifications, customer expectations, engineering practices, and government regulations
  • Work across all DTNA models and collaborate with Product Strategy, PVE, VLE, Product Engineering, and other business partners
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in engineering, mechanical preferred
  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated history of driving excellence in execution
  • Understanding of DTNA Engineering applications and processes
  • Experience creating effective and persuasive presentations
  • Experience with CAD software
  • Experience in CAD design of structures, complex assemblies, and/or Class A surfaces
  • Understanding of basic vehicle design principles
  • Solid experience using Windows and Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiarity with PAR Processes
  • Experience leading small teams
  • Strong independence in managing multiple assigned projects
  • Experience with manufacturing processes and specification requirements tools such as ELM
  • Experience with design specifications, components, and industry safety practices
  • Experience working with people responsible for Engineering Systems, Feature requirements, Software, Architecture, and Functional Safety
  • Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States at the time of application
  • Not open to visa sponsorship or existing visa holders
  • Final candidate must successfully complete a criminal background check
  • Final candidate may be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen
