Job summary

CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA) is seeking a Senior Accountant with State & Local Government experience in Baltimore, MD. You will manage the CAAS function for smaller clients, oversee staff, and provide GAAP-guided financial guidance as part of a collaborative team.

You will perform reconciliations, assist month-end close, and draft financial statements while supporting client engagements and process improvements. A Bachelor's degree is required, with 4+ years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops understanding of each client's operations and manages multiple clients, chart of accounts on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
• Leads coordination and processing of accounts payable, cash disbursements, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and payroll.
• Coordinates and completes account reconciliations (prepaids, A/R, fixed assets, A/P, accruals) and reviews complex reconciliations; prepares financial statements.
• Reviews general ledger, cash flow, allocations and related reports; documents processes and creates backups.
• Assists with quarterly/annual processing, sales tax, Form 1099s, and audit workpapers as requested by clients.

CLA is currently seeking a Senior Accountant with State and Local Government industry experience to join our Client Accounting and Advisory Service (CAAS). This role is responsible for completing account reconciliations, supporting month-end closing process, and drafting financial statements. They independently identify, communicate, and proactively discuss options with the CAAS team. Oversees CAAS Staff and manages the accounting function for smaller clients. Interacts with clients and engagement team members to provide technical guidance, alternate courses of action, and recommendations for solutions, while developing broader understanding of GAAP for their specific chosen industry.

Job Responsibilities

• Client Service: Develops an understanding of each client's business/organization operations. Competent in management of multiple clients, software, and chart of accounts on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
• Day to Day Transactions: Leads coordination and processing of accounts payable, cash disbursements, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and payroll.
• Month End Processing: Coordinates and completes account reconciliations (i.e. prepaids, accounts receivable, fixed assets, accounts payable, and accruals.) Completes complex account reconciliations (investments, debt, industry specific, etc.) Prepares, understands, and reviews financial statements (basic to complex.) Reviews general ledger, cashflow, allocations, etc. Proactively creates process and procedure documentation and builds their own backup.
• Other Quarterly/Annual Processing: Completes sales tax returns and Form 1099s and preparing audit workpapers, tax return workpapers, and other forms or items as requested by clients.
• Special Projects: Assists with projects for internal audit, due diligence, system selection, and other consultative projects.

Job Requirements

• 4 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required. Relevant work experience within state & local government is highly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.

The compensation range for this position in Maryland is: $79,000.00 - $128,000.00

The compensation range for this position in Minnesota is: $67,000.00 - $115,000.00
